THANK YOUS
I would like to thank both the Martin & Shelbyville
churches for your thoughts, prayers, cards & phone
calls during my time of medical tests, surgery & recuperation. I could feel your prayers helping me through
a very unsettling time. A special thank you to Pastor
Sean for the visits to my home & being at the hospital
the day of my surgery. He brought communion to my home
& also, to the hospital. This was truly a very meaningful gesture for myself & my family. I am doing well &
hope to be back with all of you soon.
Thank you again & may God bless you always,
Molly Mentzer

February 10, 7pm
In Western Christianity, Ash Wednesday marks the first day, or the start of the season of Lent, which begins 40 days prior to Easter (Sundays are not included in the
count).
Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. During some Ash Wednesday
services, the minister will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers.
The Bible does not mention Ash Wednesday or the custom of Lent, however, the
practice of repentance and mourning in ashes is found in 2 Samuel 13:19; Esther 4:1;
Job 2:8; Daniel 9:3; and Matthew 11:21.

JESUS DRIVES OUT AN UNCLEAN
The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new
teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him."

JOYFUL NOTES
Anyone who knows me knows that I am NOT a cold-weather person. I use to love Michigan winters, but as I have grown older, I am not so enchanted with them. I usually find myself grumbling and complaining from the tine I have to cover my bike in the late fall until I
am able to saddle up again in the spring. February is often the longest month of the year for
me!
However, I made a change this year. Not in location to a sunnier climate, but in choosing to have a sunnier attitude regarding winter. I made a decision not to complain about winter- and this after hearing that this

the biggest difference. Pastor, teacher and leadership expert John
-Col. 3.17
Maxwell has often said, "Attitude determines your altitude." If
you want to soar, it starts with your attitude.
Paul tells his readers in Colossians that in everything action,
thought and word, we should have an "attitude of gratitude." He says we are to give thanks
to God doing all that we in the name of Jesus Christ. It's pretty hard tp complain in Christ's
name isn't it? Despite the hardships we face, we can always find things to be thankful for. In
fact, we are even told be thankful FOR our hardships, knowing it strengthens our resolve
and faith.
Want to know something's I am thankful for? Here's just a short list:
 The wonderful community of faith i have the blessing to serve.
 New people God has brought into my life to love beyond measure and to be loved by
them in return.
 My family.
 Sunshine! (Today is gorgeous!)
 A beautiful home where friends are received regularly.
That February is upon us that means riding season is close at hand!
What are YOU thankful for? Make a list! It's easy to find reasons to complain. It's easy to
have a negative attitude. But what's that get you? In all things GIVE THANKS! Take a moment right now and give thanks to God for three things.
Your Friend, Pastor and Partner in Ministry,
Sean
