Donna Axel
1. Inspiration: Dave Cook Shared several quotes of inspiration.
2. Program: Sue Holmes – the new Superintendent of the B.V. Schools – was a
teacher, Athletic Director, Principal and lastly a Superintendent at the Cripple
Creek Schools. Sue found that her core values were in alignment with the B.V.
school’s values. The mission of the B.V. schools is to ensure every student
reaches the peak of success. She has found the state of the district to be good
and strong. She is focusing on three District goals: 1. For students – to increase
achievement in all core subjects with a special emphasis on math. 2. Increase
communication of the district status and goals to the community. 3. Improve
facilities. Avery Parsons is now in excellent condition. Middle school and
senior high school are in great need. Key needs are security, heating, plumbing,
lighting and asbestos remediation. An urgent need is new members of the
seven member Board.. Three are term limited and another one may not run
again. Our thanks to Sue for her school update. It would be great to have her
back in the summer to see the school’s progress.
3. The club voted to support sending up to three students – at least two of whom
are under classmates – to the RYLA training. The cost is $350 per student.
This Rotary Youth Leadership camp is an outstanding opportunity for
students.

Brazil, June 6-9, 2015, please contact Ron Axel.
