Universität Hamburg invites applications for a Research Associate (“Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in”) for the project "Ontology after Quine" (Ontologie nach Quine) in accordance
with § 28 (3) of Hamburg's Higher Education Act (HmbHG1). The position is funded through
the DFG as part of the Emmy Noether Research Group led by Dr. Richard Woodward. The post
is full time and commences on 1st July 2015 at the latest.
The position is remunerated at the salary level TV-L 13 and calls for 39 hours of work per week.
The contract will end after a period of one year. The short-term nature of this contract is
based upon § 2 of the Academic Short-Term Labor Contract Act (WissZeitVG).
The University aims to increase the number of women in research and teaching and explicitly
encourages women to apply. Equally qualified female applicants will receive preference in
accordance with Hamburg’s Higher Education Act (HmbHG).
Tasks:
The successful applicant will be integrated fully in the Research Group. They will thereby conduct independent research on the topics of its project, participate in regular research events,
and take on administrative duties such as the organization of workshops and conferences.
Given the collaborative nature of the research setting, the successful applicant is expected to
work together with other project members to ensure that the Group’s goals are achieved.
There are no formal teaching obligations associated with the position.
Area(s) of Responsibility:
The successful applicant should have previous knowledge appropriate to the topics of the
project, which include first- and second-order metaphysics and ontology, and connected issues in metaphilosophy and in the philosophies of logic and language. More information

Requirements:
The successful applicant is expected to have completed postgraduate level research on topics
related to the project. Though applicants are not required to have been awarded their PhD, it
is expected that the successful applicant will have submitted their doctoral thesis by the time
they take up the position
Candidates must have excellent research skills commensurate with their early career stage.

Mastery of the German language is not required. Mastery of the English language is required.
