SJN NATIONAL GEOGRAPHY BEE
th
SJN Catholic School 4 , 5th, and 6th grade students recently took part in preliminary rounds of the National Geography Bee. These were held to determine who would participate in the school bee. All participants did a great job.
Two students from each class were selected. Here are the winners from the
individual grades:
Fourth Grade: Ava Gunn, Xander Widener, Sam Appleton, and Matthew Hitchcock. (Matthew Harrison filled in for Ava at Bee time.)
SAVE THE DATE!
There is no more loving
way to celebrate Valentine's Day than to give
blood during the St. John
Neumann Catholic
School 1st Grade Blood
Drive on Tuesday, February 10. You can register
now by clicking on this
link:
www.redcrossblood.org/.
Enter NEUMANN as the
“sponsor code.”
Registration is also available following Mass February 7/8 in Gillin Hall.
Fifth Grade: Sahil Singh, Mark Botrous, Hope Commins, Mariah Hoover, Grace
Kim, and Ava Cuturic.
Sixth Grade: Brandon Rienecker, Gavin Robbins, Elliott Pope, and Jonathan
Hernandez.
In January, the classes gathered in the SJN Catholic School library to cheer on
their representatives. Mrs. Mitchiner read the questions to the contestants.
After several rounds, the final winners were determined: fourth-grader Matthew Hitchcock, first place, and fifth-grader Sahil Singh, second place.
Matthew will take a comprehensive written test that will be sent to the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. for grading. He will be notified
in the spring if he is invited to participate in the South Carolina State Bee. We
wish him the best of luck!
Thanks to everyone for helping make this the school’s most successful Catholic Schools Week ever.
