Mystery of Faith
Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus
Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all
ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all
things were made; For us men and for our salvation he came down
from heaven,
(all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death
and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with
the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right
hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the
Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father
and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and
glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one,
holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the
forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Preparation of the Gifts: Be Not Afraid
Amen
Agnus Dei (Lamb of God)
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
Have mercy on us. Have mercy on us. (repeat)
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
Grant us peace. Grant us peace.
Practicing Catholics (those at Mass each week and
regular at confession) are invited to receive the
Sacrament. Non practicing Catholics should go to
confession before receiving Holy Communion.
Non Catholics are welcome to come for a blessing
(cross your arms over your chest).
Communion Chant: Many and Great
Page 4
Song of Praise: Come Unto Me
Refrain: Come, come unto me; I will make you a jewel.
Precious and rare the glory you’ll bear in the crown of God.
1. There are deeds you alone must do; there are words only you can say.
Trust in me, and do not tremble, for I go with you to show you the way.
2. From the dawn of creation from the tree on Calvary,
I chose you, and gave my life to be my own, to be my delight.

Aclamación del Evangelio

Ordinario
Entrada: Alegría de Vivir
Credo Niceno
Gloria
Estribillo:
la Virgen, y se hizo hombre;
Y por nuestra causa fue crucificado en tiempos de Poncio Pilato;
Estrofas:
1. Por tu inmensa gloria te alabamos, te bendecimos, te adoramos,
te glorificamos, te damos gracias, Señor. (a Estrofa 2)
2. Señor Dios, Rey celestial, Dios Padre todopoderoso.
Señor Hijo único, Jesucristo, Señor Dios, Cordero de Dios,
tú, el Hijo del Padre. (Estribillo)
3. Tú que quitas el pecado del mundo, ten piedad de nosotros;
(a Estrofa 4)
(Estribillo)

Give and it will be given unto –VIII
The Tithe is one tenth of our income, and some have treated the tithe as a kind of magic: if you give 9.9% the magic
won’t work they say…I have also wondered if you gave more than 10% if that would mess up the principle that God’s
generosity would come to you? But I believe that 10% is only a benchmark, and that the reason tithing works the way it
does, is that when we plan to give and then cheerfully fulfill that plan, God’s generosity can flow toward us, whether it
is 5% or 2% or some other figure. It is the fulfilling of the plan that creates the openness in our soul, and into that
openness God can pour out his blessings. Just as you cannot put a gift into a clenched fist, so when we are generous
toward God and open to his will, he gives us gifts. Years later I worked with a woman at St. Joachim parish in Hayward
whose dad was a firm believer in sacrificial giving; she said he would take 10% of his weekly take home pay, put it in
an envelope and put it onto the dinner table, and would leave it there until the end of the month. If needed the family
could dip into the envelope, but she said in fact they never had to. Each month her dad would put the whole tithe into
the offering basket at church. That is a good strategy especially for those who are fearful of sacrificial giving, because
just in case, the money is there. But the principle remains, “You cannot out give God!” IHM pray for us. Fr. Jerry

In today’s first reading, we hear Samuel respond
eagerly, “Here I am!” each time the Lord calls him. May we,
too, be listening for the call of God in our lives and be ready to
say like the Psalmist, “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.”
Salmista, “Aquí estoy, Señor; vengo a hacer tu voluntad.”
Join Father Jim for an afternoon talk on the life and
writings of St. Paul, Sunday, January 25, 2-4 PM in the
Hall. Afternoon buffet provided. Then stay (or join us) at
4, as Father Jim celebrates the Feast of St. Paul by
marking his own birthday! It’s his “Good-bye to Youth”
Birthday Party (think Jack Benny and add twenty years).
RSVPs to Fr. Jim by January 22 at the office or his
personal e-mail ([email protected]) appreciated.
