Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
Many have asked about the zoning
signs along 10th Street, in front of the
church. This relates to a new sign that
we hope to build in front of the
church. Because the present sign is
located in the “Right of way” (and we hope to put the
new sign in the same location), we had to apply for a
zoning variance. The meeting has occurred and we
have received the variance. The new sign will sit
perpendicular to 10th St. thus allowing it to be more
visible. Although it will not be electronic, it will be lit
and will allow us to change messages. Hopefully, it
will be completed in the next few months.
Two months ago, we held the Ministry Fair under
the tent, located just east of the church. It went well
and many people signed up for different ministries’
opportunities. We have made a diligent effort to contact each person, but we realize that sometimes we
might miss someone. If you signed up for a
particular ministry and have not been contacted,
please contact me at pkoetter@hol spirit.cc. I will
make sure you are contacted.
This weekend we have Dan Ferguson with us, a
volunteer with Viatores Christi, an organization that
seeks to train volunteers with particular skill sets, to
work in some of the poorest areas of the world, in the
name of Christ. Dan is working in El Salvador.
Please be generous in support of Viatores Christi’s
missionary work to the poor of the world.
Sometimes I am working with someone who is in
need of a car. Twice in my seven years,
parishioners have come forward and donated a car
to someone in need. If you have a car you would
like to donate or know someone who does, please let
me know ([email protected]).

Bridge Clubs
Ministry Quote
Holy Spirit ladies bridge marathon began many years ago
before the 1970s. June Dinn, who still plays, was one of the
early players. They started at noon and finished by 3 p.m.,
so the children could come home for lunch and the ladies
could be home when
school dismissed. We
still adhere to that time
schedule to accommodate all players. We play
during the months of
September, October,
November, December,
March, and April, with a
luncheon bridge game
and awarding of prizes in
May. Fee for playing is
$7.00 per player. The
money is for expenses of mailing schedules and prizes for
the winners. Any money left over is donated to “Mercy
Meals.” We meet on the
second Tuesday of the month at assigned homes. We serve
only coffee, water and cookies to make it easy for everyone.
If you would like to join or want more information, please
contact Betty Williams at 317-802-1445 or Ann Powers at
317-898-0877.
The evening bridge
started in 1964. We
play once a month
from October through
April. The cost is
$7.50 per person with
prizes, including a
traveling trophy. Last
year we had 36 people
in our group. If you
would like to join or
want more information, please contact
Jim or Janet Rowe at
317-891-2413.
“It’s not the handling of difficult
hands that makes the winning
player. There aren’t enough of
them. It’s the ability to avoid
messing up the easy ones.”

Viatores Christi Lay Missionary Association
Daniel Ferguson, a member of Viatores Christi Lay Missionary
Association, will speak at Masses at Holy Spirit on August 27/28
as part of the Indianapolis Archdiocesan Mission Co-operative Plan.
What is Viatores Christi?
Viatores Christi (Travelers for Christ) is a Catholic lay missionary
association founded in Dublin, Ireland, in 1960. The mission of
Viatores Christi is to recruit, train and support the placement of lay
people who wish to serve in areas of need, particularly in the developing countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Viatores Christi to date has sent over 2000 volunteers on mission
to 50 countries, including areas of need in the U.S.
Daniel Ferguson, from County Derry, Ireland, has been working
as a lay missionary in El Salvador in Central America since 2010. He
was involved in documenting the testimonies of the victims of the
El Mozote Massacre which occurred on the 11th of December
1981 which took the lives of more than 1000 children, women
and men; in the preparation of the list of victims and surviving relatives that was sent to the Inter-American Court for Human Rights
in 2011; and in training local primary school teachers and students
in computer skills. He is currently running a training program for
Software Engineers in the rural north-east of El Salvador in an area
called Perquín.
Why is Daniel talking to us?
•
To raise awareness about the Missionary work of the Church and
the role of lay missionaries, particularly Viatores Christi.
•
To thank you for your support for missionary work over the years.
•
To appeal for your ongoing help both financially and above all
through your prayers.

“suelto” o no…
Enséñame a
