ST. PIERRE SCHOOL REUNION FOR ALL ALUMNI
Ecole Saint Pierre’s of Waltham is holding a reunion on
September 24 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the French club for all
alumni. The cost is $20 per person. Please contact Helen David
at 781-910-3313 or [email protected]; or Doreen LeBlanc
at 781-893-5217 or [email protected]. Please join our
Facebook page by sending a friend request to Gail David.
ORDINATION WEB SITE FOR BISHOPS-ELECT
The following informational web site has been created for the
upcoming ordination of Bishops-Elect Reed and O’Connell to
the episcopacy on the Feast of Saint Bartholomew, Wednesday,
August 24 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. It has all
the info for watching or attending the Ordination Day:
http://ordination2016.com/home/
CORI FORM RENEWALS
All communion ministers, lectors, ushers and parish volunteers
need to fill out a CORI every year. There are forms in the
sacristy. Please fill them out completely (both sides!) and have a
parish employee or priest sign the form after you show a picture
ID. The forms can be left in the sacristy. Thank you.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS
Do you have one hour free in the afternoon? Would you like to
join other adults in the parish listening to children read or
making sure they complete their homework assignments? The
After School Program starts on Thursday, September 8, and is
looking for new volunteers to donate one hour of time per week
between the hours of 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. any day Monday through
Friday. The children have really benefited from encouragement
and help given to them by the adult volunteers. Many of them are
really becoming good readers. Others are beginning to read for
the first time. And it is really hard to receive the Christian Faith
if you cannot read. For questions please call Kateri at (781) 5772262 or talk to Fr. Michael for more information.
STRUGGLING IN YOUR MARRIAGE?
If you are struggling in your marriage, Retrouvaille can help.
The ministry is led by couples who have experienced pain,
disillusionment, anger, and conflict; they offer hope as they share
their stories of struggle, reconciliation, and healing. You will
find strength in the realization that you are not alone in your
struggle. The next New England marriage renewal weekend is
Sept. 16-18. To register for the weekend or for more information,
visit www.HelpOurMarriage.com or call 1-800-470-2230.
PROJECT RACHEL
If you or someone you know is suffering from the pain of a past
abortion, the Project Rachel ministry of the Archdiocese of
Boston offers a one-day healing retreat for women at a
confidential location on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00
p.m. For more information and registration, call 508-651-3100 or
visit projectrachelboston.com. Trust in the tender mercy of God!

ATTACKS ON GOD
Caritas workers kidnapped in Congo
August 17, 2016: Three aid workers associated with the Catholic
relief and development agency Caritas were kidnapped in the
province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the
Congo. Two Caritas-Congo vehicles were ambushed in Misinga
and three Congolese workers were kidnapped. Members of the
Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, a Hutu rebel
group, are suspected of carrying out the abduction.
ATTENTION ALL VOLUNTEERS
If you are a volunteer at St. Mary’s or St. Charles and you have
never attended the course Protecting God’s Children (V IRTUS),
please contact Nilvia Hernandez at 781-308-4961 to register for
one of the following sessions. The Archdiocese of Boston
requests that all volunteers take this course just once. These
sessions will be held in St. Mary's Religious Building, 1st floor.
Saturday, August 27 at 9:00 a.m.
Saturday, October 1 at 9:00 a.m.
If you can not attend any of these, please consider attending one
of the sessions being held at Our Lady's Parish, Waltham.
They are holding sessions on Thursday, August 25 at 6:00 p.m.
and on Saturday, August 27 at 10:00 a.m.
CAR DONATION
Please spread the word or keep your eye out for someone who
wants to get rid of a car. It is common for people to have to stop
driving because of eyesight or old age. If anyone is selling a used
car or wants to donate it to the parish please contact the rectory.
We will have priests in the coming months who will need to use
one. A car donation to the Church is tax deductible.
ON THE BULLETIN COVER
Strive to enter through the narrow gate (Lk 13:24)
Jesus tells us that there is a door that permits us to enter into
God’s family, in the warmth of the house of God, into
communion with him. This door is Jesus himself. He is the door.
He is the way of salvation. He leads us to the Father. And the
door that is Jesus is never closed… In our day we pass in front of
so many doors that invite us to come in, promising a happiness
which later we realize lasts only an instant, exhausts itself with
no future. But I ask you: by which door do we want to enter?...
Let’s not be afraid to cross the threshold of faith in Jesus, to let
him enter our life more and more, to step out of our selfishness,
our closure, our indifference to others so that Jesus may
illuminate our life with a light that never goes out…
Excerpt from Pope Francis’ Angelus, August 25, 2013

SAINT MARY PARISH
My brothers and sisters in Christ,
Last year we had a Parish Fair in September. All of the
different groups, organizations and ministries set up tables to let
parishioners know what goes on in the parish. Numerous
parishioners learned more about the parish and how they can live
out their faith in a deeper way. We will be sponsoring the Parish
Fair again on Sunday, September 25 after all of the Masses. I ask
all the leaders of the different parish groups to save the date so
that we can invite and encourage more members of the parish to
grow in faith and charity.
– Fr. Michael
RECTORY OFFICE CLOSED THRU SEPT 6
The rectory office will be closed for a few weeks. Our business
manager/office secretary, Mary McCarthy, is undergoing foot
surgery and will need to recover. Please pray that the surgery is a
success. The other staff members will be busy getting things
ready for the Fall and cannot cover the office. We encourage you
to contact the office this week for any scheduling, or wait until
September 6. Special arrangements will be made to respond to
emergencies or funeral homes that need to request Funeral
Masses. If you need to send a message to a priest, you can pass a
note through the mail slot of the Rectory door. You can also
conduct parish business through email when possible. We will
respond to your email as soon as possible. If someone wishes to
speak with a priest, the best thing to do is connect with them
after the Masses, especially the 12:10 Mass. They will make time
for you or set up a time to meet with you. Thank you for your
understanding and patience. This past summer has been
extremely busy and this closure is going to add to the work that
we will need to do in September, but it is the best option that we
have right now.
MISSION APPEAL-NEXT WEEKEND
Next weekend is our assigned Mission Appeal Weekend. We
will be visited by a priest from the missions and there will be a
second collection that goes to help the Church in the Mission.
Thanks for making an offering to help spread the Faith to those
who do not know Jesus.
HEALING SERVICE - FRANK KELLY
Frank Kelly will hold a healing service on Friday, August 26,
following a 6:30 p.m. Mass at Our Lady Comforter of the
Afflicted, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham. Having survived
electrocution from a usually fatal voltage, Frank’s relationship
with God strengthened and sustained him through many spiritual
events. Many have been touched by God through this humble
man whom God uses as a vessel to heal mind, body, and soul.
GOLDEN AND SILVER ANNIVERSARY MASS
His Eminence, Sean Cardinal O’Malley, OFM invites all couples
celebrating their 25th or 50th wedding anniversary in 2016 to a

25 at 11:30. Mass will include a renewal of vows. Register by

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to “strive to enter through the
narrow gate.” Our call to be disciples and to follow Jesus
demands that we learn to live for the sake of others.
Through your donation in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Boxes at
the Church doors, you are helping your neighbor who is hungry,
hopeless and frightened to know that they belong to God. Let us
not be discouraged but pray to be better. Thank You!
Lord Jesus, you suffered death that we might live. You are the
savior of the world. Your death brought life to the world, may we
live no longer for ourselves but for you. Your death brought life
to the world, may we help the poor find the beams of God’s love.
Amen.

REBUILDING CHURCH IN HAITI
We have always relied on the generosity of parishioners who
keep putting weekly donations in the box way at the back of the

need at this moment. If someone has an idea for a fundraiser that
we might do as a parish please let us know the suggestion.
Thanks to everyone who has not forgotten the Haitians who are
still rebuilding form the earthquake of 2010.
