The Mass is the source and summit of all we do as
Catholics. Sometimes we priests and the lay faithful
can forget this essential reality within our Catholic
lives. It is essential that you and I don't merely show
up to Mass but participate, give, and receive from the
Divine liturgy.
It is first important for you and I to prepare our hearts
for what we are about the celebrate. This makes
it necessary for us to get to Mass early and sit in the
presence of the Lord before Mass begins. Don't forget
the precious Body is reserved in the tabernacle and
should be reverenced with great admiration.
Next we must enter into the Mass knowing our need
for God in all we are about to accomplish and receive. That's why we ask God for forgiveness and seek
His divine assistance as we begin each Mass. This is directly tearing open our hearts to receive the living
Word of God that is a gift from God to nourish us and
help us to become more like Christ Our Lord.
As the Word of God is being read, try to always ask
yourself the question, "What does this reading have to
do with me?". God speaks to us in every reading and
so it is important that we listen and gather all the spiritual gifts that God is freely giving us. It is also important to try to gain one insight from every Homily
that you hear. That's a rule for me, so that I am encouraged to pay attention to God's word through another instrument of God's grace.
It is important then to take what God has given us from
the readings to enter into the Eucharistic portion of
the Divine Liturgy. YOU ARE NOT A SPECTATOR!!! You
are offering the represented Body and Blood of our
Lord Jesus Christ with me, the priest. We all need to
take this action serious and with great thanksgiving!!!
It has become a bit of a bad habit here in Galveston to
run out the Church after you have received our
Lord. This is a bit of a problem because we should all
sit and reflect and thank God for the great gift that He
has given us. It is not okay to show up late or leave
early. I encourage all of us to work on giving our Lord
the time that he deserves.
Even after dismissal, mass is never over. It is necessary
for all to build community and get to know your fellow
parishioners. It is easier and a fuller experience to worship and know the community you are in. All must also
give time, talent, and treasure to the Church and local
community. This is given by God's demand and by His
grace of hope and encouragement in our lives.
Make Mass awesome!!! Be all you are created to be in
the Divine Liturgy of the Heavens.

Holy Family Parish is in need of 4 special volunteers to serve as hosts/tour
guides for the renewal of this most popular Sacred Places Tour. St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica will be the shining star of this event! Volunteers will be educated
in the history of St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica and able to happily share this information with others. We will provide special apparel for this occasion.

Wedding Guidelines
GUIDELINES FOR
WEDDINGS
AT
HOLY FAMILY PARISH











In order to be married in one of our churches, either the bride or the groom must be a baptized
Catholic with proof of their sacramental record.
Holy Family Parish does not charge our registered active church members a fee for holding a
wedding in one of our churches. The bride and/or groom must be the active members. (The
priests may determine an “active” member at their own discretion.)
All others (visiting couples) are required to pay a one-time fee of $2,000.00 in order to use one
of our churches for their wedding. The date and time will be officially reserved upon receipt of
said $2,000.00.
Weddings can be reserved at any of our churches on Saturdays between 12:00p.m. and
4:00p.m. or between 5:00p.m. and 9:00p.m. (with the exception of St. Patrick, which is only
available during the earlier time slot.)
Holy Family Parish members must schedule wedding preparation classes with the priest or deacon of their choice from our parish, within six months of the wedding date.
Visiting couples are responsible for organizing their marriage preparation with their home parishes. Please note, this takes an average of six months.
Visiting couples are required to provide their own priest or deacon to perform the wedding.
The couple may use the Holy Family Parish music ministry, or bring in their own singers and/or
musicians.
The couple may bring in flowers for decoration, or candles with LED lights only. No open flame.
Nothing may be placed on the altar, only on the floor or steps in front of it. Nothing can be
attached to any surface of the church in any way. If any damage or markings of any kind are left
behind anywhere in the church, the couple will be held financially responsible for repairs.
Nothing may be thrown inside or outside of any of our churches. Please help us preserve our
buildings by saving the rice, birdseed, flower petals, confetti…etc. for your reception.
Absolutely NO Alcohol is allowed on the property!

Our History…….is amazing!!!
This “history” is about… the reverence we demonstrate for God the Father as we
celebrate this Father’s Day. Could there be any more significant reference to this
belief than the stained glass window showing the “Father of our Country”, George
Washington, praying. This window is located in the Congressional Prayer Room in
the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
The verse surrounding the image is
“Preserve Me O God For In Thee Do I Put My Trust” - Psalm 16:1
Our reverence is observed with our outward sign of respect for God, as in our attendance at mass, but it comes from an attitude deep within the heart. When we
respect God, beholding him with awe, we naturally reflect a beautiful, internal attitude with our very actions.
