Priest Perspective
Ladies & Gents,
Our parish has embarked upon an exciting adventure. The architectural firm Zeigler/Cooper is helping us develop a Master
Plan. You may have heard me preach about
this over the past weeks. If so, we are undertaking step 1 in this process today. If you
don’t know anything about a Master Plan let
me recap…
A master plan is a planning process that
takes into account of the needs, desires,
hopes and dreams of a parish and attempts to
formulate a path forward to achieve as many
of those things as possible. These plans are
usually guided by an architectural firm. Those
guys are “expert listeners” and planners.
We have chosen Zeigler/Cooper after an
area wide search and interview process. They
have done extensive work in the archdiocese
for years. Your parishioner peers (a committee of 6) interviewed and advised the pastor to hire them.
So, what is step 1? A survey. This Saturday/Sunday at Mass we will take time to
walk thru this survey and invite you to fill it
out. If you missed church this week there are
plenty of other options for this survey: tear it
out from the bulletin and turn in, a copy was
mailed to your address or you can fill it out
online (see website/app for link).
This survey becomes your voice on paper and it will influence the outcome of this
master plan. Don’t get left behind-fill out the
survey! We want and need your input!

Our History…….is amazing!!!
This “history” is about…
The history this week involves the Galveston Historical Foundation and Holy Family Parish. The
Historical Foundation is reinstituting the Sacred Places Tour. It will be held on Saturday, August
6th in conjunction with Galveston Heritage Days. We are pleased that our St. Mary’s Cathedral
Basilica will be one of four churches open for this special event. This will be the first time that St.
Mary’s Cathedral Basilica will be open for general public viewing since its reopening 2 years ago
following reconstruction after Hurricane Ike. This historic Cathedral Basilica will be the crown
jewel of this special Sacred Places Tour. We intend to have guides knowledgeable in the
church’s history to lead our guests in understanding the heritage, beauty, and the Catholic significance of this The Mother Church of Texas.
