ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

Dear Parishioners,
As many of you already know, Bishop Olmsted has released a beautiful and “gritty” challenge to the men of the diocese
of Phoenix and beyond to live heroic lives fully rooted in Jesus Christ.
Here is some specific information on the letter as announced in the diocesan press release. I encourage all men...and
women to read this letter which is sure to inspire.
Here is the text of the press release:
The Most Rev. Thomas J. Olmsted, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, unveiled a groundbreaking new
letter addressed to the men of the Diocese of Phoenix titled “Into the Breach: An Apostolic Exhortation to Catholic Men,
My Spiritual Sons in the Diocese of Phoenix.”
“Into the Breach,” along with a trailer video, can be read in English and Spanish online at www.IntoTheBreach.net.
Released on the heels of Pope Francis’ historic visit to the United States for the World Meeting of Families, “Into the
Breach” calls upon men to embrace their masculine identity as fathers, husbands, protectors and spiritual leaders.
Bishop Olmsted urges the men of the Diocese of Phoenix to take up the unique responsibilities endowed upon them
and to love others in the self-sacrificial way to which they are called by Jesus Christ.
“With this exhortation, I encourage our men to discover or rediscover their identity as men in Christ, one of manly
courage, prayer and service,” Bishop Olmsted said. “May we follow the Lord Jesus as missionary disciples, putting into
practice what the Holy Father emphasized this past week during his historic visit: to rejoice in children, born and
preborn, and to appreciate grandparents; to grow our faith through love, sacrifice and faithful witness; and to protect
the life of every member of the family. May the Holy Spirit help us to understand our role as men in protecting and
guiding those we love, particularly our families.”
“This exhortation from the heart of our Bishop to the hearts of the priests, deacons, consecrated and laymen of the
Diocese, calls them to take up their role in the spiritual battle,” said Mike Phelan, Director of the Office of Marriage and
Respect Life for the Diocese of Phoenix.
"With this promulgation of 'Into the Breach,' we ask St. Michael, Prince of the Heavenly Host to be with us in battle,
and St. Gabriel, the Messenger of God, to help us carry the Good News of the Gospel to all," Phelan said, "and St.
Raphael, the angelic Companion and Healer, to make us ready to be part of God’s healing of the wounded in our time.”

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
Membership Opportunities
The Cathedral Council of the Knights of
Columbus will hold a membership drive next
weekend. We invite the men of the parish to
become part of the world’s largest lay Catholic
organization, almost 2 million families strong on three
continents. Dedicated to Faith, Family and Fraternity, the
Knights strive to increase their faith while making a
difference in their Church and Community. In 2013 the
Knights of Columbus donated more than $170 million to
charity, and its members volunteered 70.5 million
volunteer hours of their time to support charitable
causes.
We are also hosting an Open House on Tuesday, October
20, 2015. It will be in the Guadalupe Room, from 6:00 to
7:00 pm. Bring your family and stop by and let us tell
you about all the advantages and opportunities the
Knights can offer you and your families.

VOCATIONS CELEBRATION
Blessed Sacrament Parish in Scottsdale on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with Masses and
Eucharistic Adoration, 10:30 a.m. Children’s Mass celebrated by Bishop Olmsted, Vocations Panels with Q & A, “Saint
and Sweeting” where children come dressed up as a saint and visit all the tables for sweets. All Religious will be invited
to come and be available to teach us about their charisms and apostolates. There will be vocation panels, and Fr. Jim
Blantz, CSC will have a spectacular show of tricks. Tables in the courtyard will display vocation promotion materials
from the various Religious Orders of Sisters, Brothers and Priests in the Diocese as well as exhibits of religious art and
goods. There will be door prizes of artwork and gift baskets.

IGNATIAN RULES FOR THE
DISCERNMENT OF SPIRITS
St. Ignatius of Loyola believed our hearts are
divided between good and evil impulses. To call these
“spirits” simply recognizes the spiritual dimension
of this inner struggle. We want to follow the action
of a good spirit and reject the action of an evil spirit.
Discernment of spirits is a way to understand
God’s will or desire for us in our life.

In today’s Gospel, a man ran up, knelt
down before Jesus and asked him, “ Good
Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal
life?” Jesus answered him, “...Go, sell what
you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure
in heaven; then come, follow me.”
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, together with our Ss.
Simon and Jude community, continue to hear the call of
Jesus and try to help our brothers and sisters who are
poor and hurting with food boxes, utility assistance and
prayers of hope and mercy. Our St. Vincent de Paul
Pantry is always in need of items such as peanut butter,
spaghetti and spaghetti sauce, cereal, tuna, canned
meat, canned vegetables, canned soup or RAMEN, beans
and rice, and also toilet paper. Please drop your alms in
the Poor Box or bring your groceries to Church with you
and place them in the SVDP Food Boxes in the rear of the
Church. Your help is appreciated so much. You are in
our prayers!
For the grace this week to be detached from possessions,
and to follow Christ in faith, we pray! Fill us with your
love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy!

CELEBRANDO LA VIDA CONSAGRADA
en la parroquia de San Vicente de Paul, el domingo, 1 de
noviembre 2015 de las 1 p.m. hasta las 7 p.m. con Misas,
Adoración Eucarística, una Misa a las 3:30 p.m. con
Obispo Eduardo Nevares. Sacerdotes, Hermanas y
Hermanos religiosos estarán presentes, enseñándonos
sobre sus carismas y apostolados y también una mesa
redonda con preguntas y respuestas. Habrán “Santos y
Dulces” (Niños se visten como santos y visitan las mesas
para recoger dulces). Habrán materiales de promoción de
las diferentes órdenes de Hermanas, Hermanos y
Sacerdotes religiosos además de exposiciones de arte y
artículos religiosos, premios de arte y cestas de regalos
con refrescos proporcionados durante todo el día. Así
como San Juan Bosco maravilló a niños con trucos, el
Padre Jim Blantz, CSC, también lo hará con su
demostración espectacular de trucos!

Unase al aniversario 40 de la
Celebración del Rosario en Arizona. Es
en domingo!El 25 de Octubre del 2015,
de 2:00 a 4:15 de la tarde en el Centro
de Convenciones de Phoenix, salones
F y G, en la esquina noreste de las calles
Tercera y Jefferson. El obispo Thomas
Olmsted presidirá el evento acompañado
por el obispo auxiliar Eduardo Nevarez.
El padre Dennis Billy, C.Ss.R., profesor de teología del
Seminario de San Carlos Borromeo en Pennsylvania, sera
el orador invitado. Habrá confesiones de 12 mediodia a
2:00 de la tarde. Concierto previo al evento dará inicio a
la 1:30pm. No se pierda esta oportunidad de reunirnos
como una familia de oración ante Jesus Eucaristía. Para

SAN VICENTE DE PAUL
En el Evangelio de hoy, un hombre se
acercó corriendo a Jesús, se arrodilló ante
él y le preguntó: “Maestro bueno, ¿qué
debo hacer para alcanzar la vida eterna?”
Jesús le contestó: “Ve y vende lo que tienes, da el dinero
a los pobres y así tendrás un tesoro en los cielos.
Después, ven y sígueme.”
La Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul, junto con nuestra
comunidad de Ss. Simón y Judas, sigue escuchando el
llamado de Jesús y tratan de ayudar a nuestros hermanos
y hermanas quienes sufren de necesidad, con cajas de
comida, asistencia de servicios públicos y oraciones de
esperanza y misericordia. Nuestra despensa de San
Vicente de Paúl siempre necesita de artículos como
mantequilla de maní, espagueti y salsa de espagueti,
cereal, atún, carne enlatada, verduras enlatadas, sopas
enlatadas o fideos Ramen, frijoles y arroz, así como papel
higiénico. Por favor deje sus ofrendas en la Caja de
Pobres o lleve alimentos a la Iglesia con usted y
colóquelos en las cajas de comida de SVdP atrás de la
Iglesia. Se le agradece mucho su ayuda. ¡Usted está en
nuestras oraciones!
¡Para que la gracia de esta semana sea de separarnos de
posesiones y de seguir a Cristo en la fe, oremos al Señor!
