ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

A Letter from Our
Director of Sacred Music
Greetings Parishioners,
For the past nine years the music at our Spanish Masses has been
carefully prepared, chosen, and executed by Mr. Gabriel Martinez.
It has been my great pleasure to work with Gabriel since becoming
Director of Sacred Music here at the Cathedral. I have seen him
grow as a musician as he continues to improve his skills as an
organist, a scholar of Gregorian chant, and a composer and
arranger of music. It is therefore my great honor to announce to
you that Gabriel has been offered and has accepted the position of
Director of Music at Our Lady of Joy Parish in Carefree.
Our Lady of Joy is a large parish with a very active music program
where Gabriel will run an adult choir, a children’s choir, and other
musical groups. They recently installed a new Rodgers hybrid
electric/pipe organ. We wish him the best in this new endeavor and
hope that he returns to visit us here at the Cathedral when his
schedule allows. Thank you, Gabriel, for your years of service.
For the next few months we will have a mixture of people filling in for the Spanish Masses until a permanent person is
brought in sometime around September. Please pray for our music program during this time of transition and keep
Gabriel in your prayers as he begins this new journey in his life as a full time church musician.

Church and drop them off in the SVdP Food Boxes in the
rear of the Church. We need items such as spaghetti
and spaghetti sauce, tuna, cereal, peanut butter,
RAMEN, canned soup, canned meat, beans and rice,
canned beans or chili, and also toilet paper.
Please say a special prayer for the poor and forgotten, as
you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul

Have you ever thought about serving at the
altar during Mass? Wondered what it takes?
If you’re interested in becoming an Altar Boy
and are going into the Fifth Grade or older,
please join us for the following five days of
training:

from 10 AM - 12 PM
Parents, please accompany your children into the
cathedral on the first day.
Men, remember that we are all children in the eyes of the
Lord. We are always looking for a few good men to join
the ranks of our men in black, too! This is a great way to
serve the Lord with your son.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING
IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN... FOR RENEWALS
For all employees and volunteers
It is the responsibility of everyone — clergy,
administrators, teachers, staff, as well as all of our
committed volunteers — to help create a safe
environment for all of our children.
As part of that commitment, we are all asked to complete
Safe Environment Training once each year (July 1-June 30).
July 1 marks the beginning of the new Safe Environment
Training year. All volunteers and staff are required to
take a foundation or renewal class by September 15th in
order to continue serving in their apostolate at Ss. Simon
& Jude Cathedral.
New volunteers need to complete the 3 hour Called to
Protect Foundation class. New volunteers may choose to
do this class at any location or you may choose to take a
class we are offering at SSJ.
All current volunteers who have already completed the 3
hour Call to Protect Foundation class need to complete a
renewal class. The renewal class lasts about 30-45
minutes and volunteers may choose to register for a class
at a particular location or complete their renewal online.
To register for either the foundation or renewal class,

class, you will have to wait for a confirmation before

Saludos Feligreses,

español ha sido preparada, elegida, y elaborada cuidadosamente por
el Sr. Gabriel Martínez. Ha sido para mí un gran placer trabajar con
Gabriel desde que empecé como Director de Música Sagrada aquí en
la Catedral. Lo he visto crecer como músico mientras que él sigue
mejorando sus habilidades como organista, compositor y arreglista
de música y en canto Gregoriano. Por tanto, es para mí un gran
honor anunciarles que Gabriel ha aceptado el puesto de Director de
Música en la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de la Alegría en Carefree.
Nuestra Señora de la Alegría es una parroquia grande con un
programa de música muy activo, donde Gabriel dirigirá un coro de
adultos, un coro de niños y otros grupos musicales. Recientemente
se ha instalado un nuevo órgano eléctrico híbrido Rodgers. Le
deseamos lo mejor en este nuevo proyecto y esperamos que regrese
a visitarnos aquí en la Catedral cuando su agenda se lo permita.

EN RENOVACIONES
Para todos los empleados y voluntarios
Es responsabilidad de todos - sacerdotes,
administradores, maestros, personal, así como a todos
nuestros voluntarios comprometidos - para ayudar a crear
un ambiente seguro para todos nuestros niños.
Como parte de ese compromiso, se pedirá a todos
completar Entrenamiento de Ambiente Seguro, una vez
cada año (1 julio a 30 junio). Se requiere que todos los
voluntarios y al personal a tomar una fundación o una
clase de renovación antes del 15 de septiembre con el fin
de continuar sirviendo en su apostolado a la Catedral de
SS. Simón y Judas.
Nuevos voluntarios necesitan completar la Clase de
Fundación llamados a Proteger de 3 horas. Todos los
voluntarios actuales que ya han completado el 3 horas de
llamadas para la Protección de la Clase de Fundación
tienen que completar una clase de renovación. La clase
de renovación dura unos 45 minutos.
Los voluntarios pueden optar por inscribirse en una clase
en un lugar determinado o de completar su renovación en
línea.

SAN VICENTE DE PAUL
En el Evangelio de este domingo, Jesús dice
a sus discípulos, “Vengan conmigo a un lugar
solitario, para que descansen un poco.”
Vicente de Paúl, un gran hombre de acción
también era un contemplativo. Su
contemplación del amor de Dios se derramó
en amor práctico hacia los pobres.
La Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl esta muy agradecida
por la generosidad de nuestra comunidad parroquial y el
amor hacia los pobres. Por favor continúe trayendo sus
bolsas de alimentos a la Iglesia y colóquelas en las cajas
de comida de SVdP atrás de la Iglesia. Necesitamos
productos tales como espagueti y salsa de espagueti,
atún, cereales, mantequilla de maní, sopas de fideos
Ramen, sopas enlatadas, carne enlatada, frijoles y arroz,
chili o frijoles enlatados, así como papel higiénico.
Por favor, diga una oración especial por los pobres y
olvidados, mientras coloca su ofrenda en la caja de
pobres de la Sociedad de San Vicente de Paúl. ¡Dios los
bendiga a todos ustedes!
