What is the meaning of the Chi-Rho symbol ?
This is called a Chi-Rho. Chi and
Rho are the first two letters (ΧΡ)
of "Christ" in Greek ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ
(Christos). Sometimes it is called
the Monogram of Christ or
Chrismon or Labarum. While it was
used very early by persecuted
Christians in the catacombs, when
Constantine I was struggling to
become emperor, he used the symbol at the front of
his armies and was victorious.
The Chi-Rho is often shown with the Greek letters
Alpha (A) and Omega (lower case ώ or upper case Ω),
the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet.
Jesus refers to himself: "I am the Alpha and the
Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the
End." (Revelation 22:13). The Chi-Rho is often on
vestments used by the Priest’s, since they represent
Christ (Inpersona Christi) at Holy Mass.

A Note from the Administrator...
Dear friends,
Next week-end an old friend will be coming to
speak at the English Masses --- our former pastor,
Fr. Pat Kirsch. He was here when I first arrived 2
½ years ago … and no one could have been kinder!
Fr. Pat took sick shortly after I arrived --- no, I had
nothing to do with it! --- And needed to pull back
from pastoral work and take an extended rest. But
he’s back now, stronger than ever, and Bishop Barnes recently named him founding pastor of a new
parish (Blessed Oscar Romero) over in Eastvale.
Building up his new parish should be very easy for
Fr. Pat … except that he has no money and no parishioners…. So he will be at Masses inviting people who live over in the direction of Eastvale to
join him in founding a new church. And, our Finance Committee will be giving him a donation out
of parish funds.
I’ll be sorry to miss this visit (our pilgrim group
will be in the Holy Land), but I’m going to leave
him a donation and I hope you will too.
Peace, All Good!
Fr. Mike
Estimados amigos:
Padre Mike
