As we begin to make Christmas gi lists, today’s readings speak about the three
gi s of the Advent season: the chance to return home, the honesty of a place
apart, and the clarity of the Gospel light.
RECONCILIATION / RECONCILIACIÓN
In the first reading, the prophet Baruch speaks of the return of the Jewish exiles
to their homeland. Likewise, Advent is an opportunity to more fully return to a
deeper rela onship with Christ and His Church. It is a great season to celebrate
the Sacrament of Reconcilia on with God, others and ourselves. We can
experience not only a deeper life and a wider love, but also the redemp ve
forgiveness of Christ and the grace and power of new life in Him.
Church / Iglesia
Saturday ..................................... 4:00-4:30 pm (English)
Domingo .................................... 2:15-3:15 pm (Español)
Today’s Gospel reading describes Advent as the desert; it is a place apart from
poli cs, intrigue, jealousy, selfishness and disputes that surround us all year long.
It is a me to carve out space each day to be with the Lord, to regain vision and
keep perspec ve. We make ready the way of the Lord in our lives especially
through prayer, to develop that space within where God can speak to us. We
prepare our offices and homes where we work, live and entertain others. Advent
also is a me to prepare ourselves within by prayer, where we will personally
meet God Himself, where He will reveal His will to us and change our hearts.
Bap sm Classes
Begin while pregnant or awai ng adop on. Bap sms
will not be scheduled un l classes have been completed.
Parents MUST pre-register to a end. Two sessions are
required. 2016: January 9 & 16
Clases para Bau smo
Comience cuando este embarazada o esperando una
adopción. Los Bau zos no se podrán programar hasta
que las clases hayan sido completadas. Los padres
TIENEN que pre-registrarse para atender. Dos sesiones
se requieren. 2016: enero 9 y 16
God can speak through the events in our life. But it is only in the quiet mes of
prayer that we first learn to recognize His voice. St. Francis de Sales calls prayer
the “water that irrigates everything we do.” St. Teresa of Avila says that mental
prayer is “nothing else than an in mate sharing between friends; it means taking
me frequently to be alone with Him, Who we know loves us. The important
thing is not to think much but to love much and so do that which best s rs you to
love. Love is not great delight but desire to please God in everything we do.”
Advent can help us create that space within, that zone of honesty about
ourselves where we no longer pretend to be someone else but where we most
authen c. This process will open up a way for the Lord. A personal rela onship
with Christ is not for a select few! Our rela onship with Christ was given to us in
Bap sm. It is available for all the bap zed if we take the me to strengthen it.
Advent calls us to the quiet space within where we can start to literally hear the
voice of God in our life.
Finally, Advent is a me of Gospel light. St. Paul writes to the Philippians that his
prayer is that they may learn to value the things that really ma er. Advent is our
annual wake-up call to look beneath the gli er of the season to deeper reali es.
Let’s not forget the gi s of Advent: the chance
to return, the honesty of silent mes, and the
guidance of God’s light. They are gi s that keep
on giving.

GATHERING SPACE!
¡ESPACIO DE ENCUENTRO!
My dear Parishioners,
On November 24, 2015, I received official wri en confirma on
that the Archdiocesan College of Consultors' recommenda on
to complete the construc on of our church was accepted by
Archbishop Donald Cardinal Wuerl.
A er years of hope and prayer, and with gra tude for the
generosity of our parishioners, we will soon start the
construc on of the Gathering Space. A small group of
parishioners who are experts in the construc on field has been
created to serve the interests of our parish and to facilitate the
comple on of this project in accord with both Archdiocesan and
civil requirements and laws.
As we move forward, I will be sure to keep you apprised of new
developments and progress. For now, let us pray and thank God
for His blessings and our Holy Mother for her constant
intercession! God bless you.
