ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

Dear Parishioners,
Happy Easter!
I thought a good way to celebrate the Lord’s Resurrection might be to review briefly what our most recent Teaching Tuesday series
touched upon: prayer. Since prayer is one of the three pillars of the Lenten season we just experienced (the other two being fasting
and almsgiving) and since I had touched upon the subject of almsgiving in last week’s letter about the CDA, I wanted to recap the
Teaching Tuesday series we concluded just before Holy Week.
First of all, the turnout each night was between 200 and 300 people! We may have even exceeded 300 on one or more nights, but
I’ve never been good at guessing crowd size—nor, for that matter, guessing the number of jelly beans in the jar at the county fair!
The first night, we considered the “three levels of the heart” and the dynamics of sin—topics that touch the experience every
human person. This first class laid the foundation for understanding the struggles we all share with (a) not really knowing ourselves
well; (b) not understanding why we do so many of the things we do; and (c) why beginning to become more aware of these interior
dynamics is a critical step to entering into an intimate relationship with God in prayer. This subject matter seemed to resonate deeply
with everyone in attendance.
The second night we delved more deeply into the first two steps of what I called “Pirate Prayer”. You may recall that I wrote about
this form of prayer in the bulletin letter last May, described by the acronym “A-R-R-R” (see why I call it “Pirate Prayer”?). The
acronym breaks down as follows:
A – Acknowledge – noticing and naming the thoughts, feelings and desires that one experiences right now
R – Relate – communicating with God about these thoughts, feelings and desires
R – Receive – listening attentively to God’s communication back to you after you have related to him
R – Respond – expressing back to God something of the recent prayer “conversation” or making a resolution
In the third class, we discussed, in detail, the final two steps—Receive and Respond.
The purpose of this extensive treatment of “ARRR” prayer was to show the attendees how to engage God in regular conversation (i.e.
prayer) about what’s actually going on in their lives—the things happening in the heart, particularly as they relate to the spiritual
battle against sin and the desire to grow in holiness.
In the fourth class we learned to carry the fruit of the “ARRR” prayer forward into daily life through what St. Ignatius of Loyola
called the “Examen Prayer”.
And we spent the final class discussing ways to express this deeper relationship with the Lord in active love.
Roger Downey, a member of our Stewardship Committee, filmed the last four classes, and we hope to have DVDs of this series on
prayer available soon.
We have now completed three Teaching Tuesday series—the first one on the Mass (Sacred Liturgy); the second series on the
Catholic Church’s beautiful teaching on sexuality; and this most recent series on prayer. All three have been a delight to
teach and, based on participant reaction, they have also been very fruitful for the spiritual and intellectual lives of those who attend.
I am already planning my next Teaching Tuesday series which is scheduled for early September. As enthused as I was to teach this
most recent series—and I could barely contain my excitement—I am even more excited about the next one! And the power of the
Risen Christ certainly adds to the excitement!

Queridos feligreses,
feliz Pascua!
Pensé que una buena manera de celebrar la Resurrección del Señor puede ser revisar brevemente lo que nuestra Enseñanza seria más
reciente Martes abordó: la oración. Como la oración es uno de los tres pilares de la Cuaresma que acabamos de experimentar (los otros
dos son el ayuno y la limosna) y como ya había tocado el tema de la limosna en la carta de la semana pasada acerca de la CDA, quería
volver a tapar la serie Enseñanza Martes concluimos justo antes de Semana Santa.
En primer lugar, la participación cada noche era de entre 200 y 300 personas! Es posible que hayamos incluso superado 300 en una o
más noches, pero nunca he sido bueno en adivinar multitud tamaño-ni, para el caso, adivinar el número de caramelos en el frasco en la
feria del condado!
La primera noche, hemos considerado los "tres niveles del corazón" y la dinámica de los sin-temas que tocan la experiencia de cada
persona humana. Esta primera clase sentó las bases para la comprensión de las luchas que todos compartimos con (a) sin saber bien a
nosotros mismos; (B) sin entender por qué lo hacemos muchas de las cosas que hacemos; y (c) por qué comienza a ser más
conscientes de estas dinámicas interiores es un paso crítico para entrar en una relación íntima con Dios en la oración. Este tema parecía
resonar profundamente con todos los asistentes.
La segunda noche que se adentró más profundamente en los dos primeros pasos de lo que he llamado "La oración del pirata". Ustedes
recordarán que escribí sobre esta forma de oración en la carta boletín en mayo pasado, descrito por el acrónimo "ARRR" (ver por qué lo
llamo "La oración del pirata"?). El acrónimo se desglosa de la siguiente manera:
A - Reconocer - notar y nombrar a los pensamientos, sentimientos y deseos que uno experimenta en este momento
R - Relate - comunicación con Dios acerca de estos pensamientos, sentimientos y deseos
R - Recibir - escucha atenta de la comunicación de Dios con usted después de haber relacionado con él

En la tercera clase, discutimos, en detalle, los dos pasos finales, recibir y responder.

Miércoles: 3-4 am
Viernes: 8-9 pm
También necesitamos sustitutos que de vez en cuando
rellenar durante las primeras horas de la mañana entre
la medianoche y las 3:00 a.m.

LA CAMPAÑA DE CARIDAD Y
DESARROLLO 2015
Gracias a todos los que han hecho una
donación al CDA. Cada una de las
donaciones es importante y provee ayuda
vital a los programas y organizaciones que cuentan con
el CDA. Los fondos del CDA les permiten que provean
servicios y recursos críticos a nuestras parroquias,
diócesis, y comunidades locales.
No es tarde para hacer su donación. La meta de nuestra
parroquia es alcanzar el 100% de la participación y
$100,000. Actualmente el 4.8% de nuestra parroquia ha
reunido $77,548 hacia nuestra meta. Favor tomar
tiempo en oración para discernir su donación a nuestra

Hoy, es el día en el que celebramos la fiesta de la Pascua,
nos encontramos con el reto de también ver y creer la
resurrección que viene a través de nuestras propias vidas
de auto-sacrificio. Es entonces que somos un pueblo
verdaderamente Pascua!
A medida que coloca su regalo en la Sociedad de San
Vicente de Paul Poor Box, saber que usted es un signo del
amor de Dios a aquellos que sufren y les das esperanza
Pascua y alegría. Un agradecimiento especial a todos los
generosos donativos para nuestra colección quinto
domingo. Ustedes han demostrado realmente su amor
por los pobres y el sufrimiento de Dios y les ha dado el

PREPARACIÓN DEL BAUTISMO
Si usted está deseando que su hijo (a) sea
bautizado (a) o está esperando al bebe y le
gustaría preparar el bautismo antes de su
llegada, este es un buen momento para
alegrarse! En la Catedral de San Simón y Judas,
queremos ayudarle en la preparación de sus primeros
pasos en su vida con Cristo. Nuestro programa de
preparación para el Bautismo, consta de una serie de
3 clases y los padres y padrinos deben asistir a las
3 sesiones.

Misericordia" y una indulgencia plenaria está
disponible para esas las siguientes

Comunión eucarística
(preferiblemente el día o los días antes o después)
La oración por las intenciones del Santo Padre
en cualquier iglesia o capilla, en un espíritu
totalmente alejado del afecto a todo pecado,
incluso un pecado venial, participar en los actos de
piedad realizados en honor de la Misericordia Divina
o, en presencia del Santísimo Sacramento expuesto o
reservado en el sagrario, recitar el Padre Nuestro y el
Credo, añadiendo una invocación piadosa al Señor
Jesús misericordioso
