Aging Religious Need your Help.
In the United States today, there are more than 33,000
senior Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order
priests. These religious worked tirelessly in Catholic
schools, hospitals, agencies and parishes, usually for little
to no pay. As a result, many religious communities lack
adequate savings for retirement and eldercare. Your gift
to today’s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious
helps provide medications, nursing care, and more. There
will be a second collection today. Please be generous.

Reflections from the
Gloria Dei Choir
For the Third Sunday of Advent, the Gloria Deo Choir sings our third excerpt from
G.F. Handel’s celebrated oratorio Messiah. The chorus
“O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion” immediately
follows an alto aria using the same prophetic text from
Isaiah Chapter 40:
O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, arise;
Say unto to the cities of Judah: Behold you God!
Behold, the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
This brief but engaging chorus is densely packed with
lively melodic motives and a dancelike 6/8 meter. After
Communion, the choir and a trio of soloists will sing Purcell’s anthem “Rejoice in the Lord Alway.” The original
version runs about 9 minutes in length, so we’ve instituted some judicious cuts. The text is drawn from Philippians 4:4-7:
Rejoice in the Lord alway, and again I say rejoice.
Let your moderation be known unto all men.
The Lord is at hand.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing
by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,
shall keep your hearts and minds
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
—Kevin St. Clair, Interim Director
Gloria Dei Choir

Jubilee Year of Mercy
Third Sunday of Advent
Pope Francis chose to inaugurate the Jubilee Year of Mercy last
Tuesday because December 8
marks the fiftieth anniversary of the
closing of Vatican II. That council,
Pope Francis reminds us, inaugurated a new phase in the Church’s
history. The Spirit called the Church to tear down the
walls that for far too long had made it a fortress, and to
proclaim the gospel in a new, more accessible way. Pope
Francis quotes Saint John XXIII in declaring the Church’s
preference for “the medicine of mercy,” and Blessed Paul
VI in proposing the Good Samaritan as our model for discipleship (Misericordiae Vultus, 4). Pope Francis adds
that God’s mercy is “the beating heart of the Gospel,” and
that mercy “must penetrate the heart and mind” of every
disciple (MV, 12). Three times today’s Gospel asks,
“What should I do?” Pope Francis would say: Imitate Jesus, who came not wielding the fiery judgment that John
the Baptist had threatened, but instead imparting healing,
compassion, forgiveness—mercy!

northeast entrance and is open after Saturday
evening and Sunday morning Masses.
Armory Emergency Shelter Program
Once again we have a great opportunity to serve other
people in our community. Mercy House is looking for volunteers to help staff the Fullerton Armory Cold Weather
Shelter. This program provides shelter to 150 homeless
men, women and children per night with a nutritious meal,
a warm shower, a safe place to sleep, warm clothes, outreach services and a friendly atmosphere at the National
Guard Armory in Fullerton.
OLG parish is signed up for ten volunteers, one night
a month, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Our assigned dates are:
Tuesday, December 22
Wednesday, March 23
Wednesday, January 20
Wednesday, April 13
Tuesday, February 23
Volunteers must be at least 10 years of age (ages 10
to 17 must be accompanied by an adult), be able to lift 15
lbs., and sign a waiver (a new one each year) before participating. If you are interested in participating, please call

Small Groups are where our great big church becomes a great small church. It’s the place to go to grow,
to be known, loved, and cared for. In Small Groups members discuss what God’s Word says on a topic and approach it through the issues and experiences of their daily
lives. People are challenged to be authentic and accountable about what’s really going on in their lives in a safe
and supportive place. At OLG Small Groups, we share
life, build relationships and
pray together. Join us. Contact: Nick Rawe
[email protected] or
Dave da Rosa (714) 7888648.
Helping Hands Are Needed! We are seeking volunteers to launder our church linens.
Each volunteer picks up the soiled linens
approximately once a month, takes them
home for washing and ironing, and then
returns them within a few days to the
church. Laundering instructions will be given. To volunteer or get more information, please call the parish office.
Keeping the Seasons Advent Handouts
Each week of Advent and continuing through the Christmas Season there will be a weekly one-page handout
offering a prayer and a Scripture reflection for each Sunday and other suggestions for keeping the seasons. The
handouts are in the brochure racks at the entrances of
the church and are available in English and Spanish.

WHY IS IT
Saint Margaret Sunday Missal
A man wakes up after sleeping
under an ADVERTISED blanket
on an ADVERTISED mattress
and pulls off ADVERTISED pajamas
bathes in an ADVERTISED shower
shaves with an ADVERTISED razor
brushes his teeth
with ADVERTISED toothpaste
washes with ADVERTISED soap
puts on ADVERTISED clothes
drinks a cup
of ADVERTISED coffee
drives to work
in an ADVERTISED car
and then . . . .
refuses to ADVERTISE
believing it doesn’t pay.
Later if business is poor
he ADVERTISES it for sale.
