Bulletin - Cathedral of Christ the King

Twenty-seventh Sunday in ordinary time
Dear Parishioners,
Thank you for your generosity towards our
annual SVDP Food Drive. This year, the SVDP
Food Drive was renamed the John Jezak Food
Drive after Jezak, our fellow parishioner,
Vincentian and Knight, died suddenly last
month. David Roberts, Conference of SVDP
President, told us that for many years, John
had handled all the details of our three times a
year food and clothing drives, so it was decided that the
drives would now be named after Jezak in honor of him.

The food drive, held on September 19 and 20, produced
4,160 pounds of food and supplies for the St. Vincent
DePaul Food Pantry on Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. That
is more than two tons! We were grateful to have a large
group of St. Pius X football players help us load the
truck.
“We are blessed to be a part of a very generous parish,” Roberts said. “SVDP
can always count on the Cathedral for its support.”
Thank you again for your generosity.
God Bless You,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector

Stewardship of Treasure
How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
Today’s readings from the Book of Genesis and St. Mark’s Gospel are linked by the common
theme of sacred marriage. In the Gospel, Jesus, referring to Genesis, proclaims, God made
them male and female. For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined
to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. It is obvious from these Scripture passages

had at this time last year.
Monsignor Frank asks that you please take a moment to visit our website and

donation. It does not matter the size of the gift—$10 is appreciated as much as
$100. Please show your support for the work the archdiocese does and help

Pastoral Care Ministry
GRACE Scholars
Linda Dyson • 404-233-2145 x440 • [email protected]
GRACE Scholars is a Georgia nonprofit corporation and tax exempt
charity. GRACE has met the
requirements for designation as a
student scholarship organization
(SSO) in Georgia. Because GRACE is
an SSO, Georgia taxpayers can
redirect part of their tax liability to
GRACE and qualify for a generous
tax benefit created by the Georgia
legislature - a 100 percent tax
credit. As GRACE is a tax exempt
charity (501-c-3 organization), gifts
to GRACE also qualify as charitable
contributions under federal law.
Bereavement Support
Pastoral Care is sponsoring classes where the bereaved can better understand the
grief process, have the opportunity to express their experiences, and to explore
with others who are also grieving the loss of a loved one. This 10-week series will
assist the bereaved in their grief journey to healing while maintaining the
memories of their loved one. This series uses “The New Day Journal: A Journey
from Grief to Healing” by Mauryeen O’Brien. The workbook costs $11.00 and can
be purchased at the first session. The next series begins Monday, October 19 at
6:30 pm in the Media Center in Christ the King School. To register, or for
additional information, please contact Linda Dyson at [email protected].

CTK Only Atlanta Stop for German Choir
The Paderborn Cathedral Choir from Germany will be performing at the Cathedral of Christ the King on Wednesday,
October 14 at 7:30 pm. The Cathedral is the choir’s only stop in Atlanta. There is no charge for this event.
The Paderborner Domchor is acclaimed as one of Germany’s most renowned cathedral boys‘ choirs. More than 100 boys aged
8 to 16 years and well over 30 young men sing in various choir ensembles from the choir's preschool to a concert choir. The
history of the Domchor in its present-day form as a four-part boys’ choir dates back to 1889 when Domkantor Carl Fischer
began to considerably expand the Cathedral’s existing Choralschola by adding boys.
In the course of its 125th choir anniversary, about 75 Domchor members will embark on a two-week tour through the USA
in October 2015. The tour program is focused on the musical composition of religious services and concerts in New York (St.
Patrick’s Cathedral), Washington,
St. Louis, and Atlanta.

parishioners to join us for a free
evening of beautiful music on

Queridos Parroquianos,os,
Muchas gracias por su
generosidad con la
Colección anual de
alimentos de San Vicente de
Paul. Este año, la colección
de alimentos tomó el
nombre de John Jezak,
nuestro compañero feligrés,
Vicentino y Caballero, que
falleció repentinamente el
mes pasado.

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 5,500 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org or
email us.
May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
