Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 12, 2014
From the Pastor’s Desk...
In the parable of the wedding feast we hear
Jesus say, “But when the king came in to see
the guests, he noticed a man there who was
not wearing a wedding robe, and he said to
him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without a
wedding robe?’”
This passage from the Sunday gospel has often
bothered me. How could the man have been dressed
properly for the wedding banquet? When his day
started, he had no idea that he would be attending a
wedding feast. He was simply walking down the street
when the invitation came. Was there any time for him
to go and find something proper to wear?
Yet, in another part of Matthew’s gospel, we hear
Jesus say, “"Be on the alert then, for you do not know
the day nor the hour.” The truth is, each day holds the
possibility of being that day when we will be invited
and welcomed to the feast. And so, at the start of
each day we must consider how we will “dress”
ourselves.
Are we clothed in Christ? In our dealings with one
another, do we present to them an image of charity,
humility, mercy, joy, and all those other virtues and
attributes that should make up the wardrobe of a holy
Christian? Walking down the road of life, we never
know when we may come across God. Every person
and every moment presents to us the possibility for a
divine encounter. Therefore, we must always be
dressed properly.
We must put on Christ… wearing Christ on the
outside... in the love we express for God and for our
neighbor. And by wearing Christ on the outside,
we then give witness to the truth of God who dwells
inside of us.
As temples of the Holy Spirit of God, we dress
ourselves with the holiness of our Christian dignity.
We pray that the words spoken at our Baptism may
come true for us. When the invitation comes for us to
attend the banquet that Christ has prepared for us in
heaven, may we “bring that dignity unstained into the
everlasting life of heaven.” Dressed appropriately,
with the joy, the love, and the mercy of our Creator,
we can walk through life with no worries about finding
our place at the table.

boda?’”
nunca sabemos cuándo encontramos a Dios.

Men, Are You Being Called to Go on Retreat?
What is a retreat? It’s a chance to leave behind the
hustle and bustle of life, the stresses of work and your
everyday rou ne and get away by yourself and
recharge in a prayerful atmosphere.
What’s the point? Jesus at mes would take his
apostles and disciples off to some remote place to rest
a while in prayer and contempla on. Going on retreat
is an opportunity to step back and look at your life,
your rela onship with others and your rela onship
with God.
What do you do on retreat? There will be a series
of three talks, followed by discussion. There also will
be quiet me during which you can pray in the chapel,
go for a walk or stay in your room. There will be an
opportunity for reconcilia on and Mass will be offered
Saturday morning.
What do I need to bring with me? Comfortable
clothes, slippers, a Bible, rosary and most importantly
an open heart.
What’s this going to cost me? The retreat is $40
per person. Each person is also assigned to bring an
item of food or a condiment to keep the cost down.
Why should I go? It’s a chance to meet other men
who are just like you. There’s also plenty of food to
eat. And don’t you and God deserve some special me
together?
This year’s the Men’s Fellowship Retreat is Friday
and Saturday, Nov. 7-8 at St. Mary’s Retreat House in
Lemont. We will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and
conclude at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The theme will be “Do
Not Be Afraid: Trust in the Lord.”
