Parishioner feedback requested
for Deanery Council
Tom Carlson and Marge Kearney are the
representa ves from our parish to the Deanery
Council. The Council considers issues which come
from the Archbishop and obtains feedback from
parishioners, which is then given back to the
Archbishop. The current issue for considera on is:
“Catholic means Universal. It means one
communion of cultures. It means one family of
families drawn from every na on, people and
tongue.” (quote from Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los
Angeles).
Share the ways in which our parish is affected by
and engaging in the issue of immigra on and the
impact on our parish of mult-lingualism. How might
bridges be built between dis nct cultural
communi es within our parish?
If you have any feedback on this topic, Tom &
Marge will bring it back to the March Deanery
mee ng. Please email your feedback to
[email protected]

We have several copies of a new CD composed by
Fr. Bob Hutmacher, entitled “The Nature Suite“,

composed and recorded by the Sisters of St. Joseph
and many books to borrow in Sr. Margaret’s Lending

Rosary Makers
.....have been making rosaries for 14 years this
month. We were founded in January 2001 and have
made nearly 27,000 corded rosaries in many colors
that have been sent to many countries in Central
and South America, as well as many places in the
U.S., and around the world. We meet one morning
a month and take new rosary supplies and leave all
the rosaries that have been made during the past
month. There is no cost to the Rosary Makers as we
are supported by the Council of Catholic Women of
our parish. Current Rosary Makers are Estelle, Irene,
Stephanie, Stacy, Marcia, Jacqueline, Therese, Dora

Desde el escritorio del Párroco…
It’s me once again for Saint Barbara Parish
to par cipate in the Annual Catholic Appeal that
supports the ministry of the Archdiocese of
Chicago. Our parish’s contribu on to the 2015
Annual Catholic Appeal will help Archbishop Cupich
and all those who serve with him in their efforts to
meet the spiritual, educa onal, and temporal needs of
the people of the Archdiocese of Chicago, in Cook and
As we enter into this campaign, please spend some
me this week reflec ng on the Annual Catholic
Appeal brochure included with this bulle n. Please
remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is quite
different than a one- me special collec on.
The Annual Catholic Appeal is a pledge campaign,
where you can make a gi payable in installments.
The theme of the 2015 Annual Catholic Appeal is
“Entrusted with Responsibility”. We are asked to
consider how we share in the ministry of the
Archdiocese and accept some of the responsibility for
caring for God’s Holy Church. God blesses each of us
with gi s. God is the source of all that we have.
With our gi s, we are entrusted with responsibility.
Our gi s to our parish, to the Archdiocese of Chicago
and to the work of the Church throughout the world
reflect our gra tude for gi s that God gives us and our
willingness to share in the stewardship of the Church.
Each pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal, large or
small, does make a difference. Each gi helps to
enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries
and services. Together, our combined gi s can fund a
significant por on of the ministry of our Archdiocese.
Our parish has been asked to raise $25,042.50 for the
2015 Annual Catholic Appeal. Once we have reached
that goal, 100% of any addi onal funds raised will
come back to our parish to help fund the needs of our
own parish. Thanks to the generosity of so many of
our parishioners, Saint Barbara Parish has exceeded its
goal year a er year. I am confident that this year we
will once again do the same. If you received your
pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it
back or bring it to Mass next weekend. We will hear
from Archbishop Cupich and conduct the in-pew
pledge process at Mass next weekend. Thank you for
your prayerful considera on and your generous
response to this appeal.
tenemos.

Please Help Insure the Continuation of
Eucharistic Adoration at St. Barbara Church
For well over twenty years now, St. Barbara has
had Monday Eucharistic Adoration. This was
possible because of a small group of volunteers,
both primary Hourly Guardians and Substitutes, that
could be called when an assigned Hourly Guardian is
not available for his or her assigned hour. This cadre
of people has diminished over time for various
reasons (e.g., illness, death, work assignments—just
to name a few).
Perhaps you or a friend could offer to be an
Hourly Guardian for a particular hour, for 2:00 p.m.
to 9:00 p.m. each Monday. (Church law requires
that an assigned individual or substitute always be
present when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for
Adoration. If this requirement is violated, Eucharistic
Adoration at St. Barbara may have to be
discontinued.)
Being an Hourly Guardian only requires that one
be present at Eucharistic Adoration each Monday at
the hour one has volunteered for. Occasionally
substitute Hourly Guardians are needed to fill in for
the Hourly Guardian during the assigned hour.
Contact Jerome Gauthier, Eucharistic Adoration
Coordinator, at 708-485-1126, or email
[email protected], if you are interested or have
any questions.

Happy New Year! I want to personally thank you
all who donated financially and/or spiritually to the
Food Pantry this past Holiday Season. You answered
the call set by the Holy Spirit to give to those less
fortunate in our community. Thanks to you, Jewel,
Tischler and Liz Kenney we were able to serve 248
Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Our families
were very appreciative and grateful for the
generous outpouring of love shown to them. I also
want to thank the organizations, schools, churches,
clubs, individual owned companies, my volunteers
and any others I may have left out, who made this
season so special. In the month of November and
December 279 individuals and families passed
through our door and witnessed the generosity of
our wonderful community.
Remember to continue sending in your canned
goods, food, coats, gloves, hats they are much
appreciated.
God Bless you all! Maria

This new documentary from Emmy Awardwinning Resolu on Pictures, captures the passion of
people engaged in a David and Goliath
confronta on. They stand together, challenging a
system that promotes profit over health. We meet
mothers, fathers, scien sts, doctors, farmers and
people from all sides of the poli cal spectrum taking
a hard look at energy extrac on techniques not
proven to be safe. With the Oil and Gas industry’s
expansion of fracking seen as a moral issue, this
provoca ve documentary tracks a people’s
movement, a groundswell rising towards reason and
sensi vity, to protect life, today and tomorrow.
