Welcome to our Parish
MISSION STATEMENT—We, the community of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, located within
the larger, diverse and artistic seaside community of Laguna Beach, recognize and celebrate
the uniqueness which is grounded in the sacred mysteries and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church and in the history and lives of our individuals, families and leaders. Built on these
roots, and in order to see the world as God sees it, we commit ourselves to: being a welcoming
sanctuary and a place of prayer and worship, nurturing, assisting, encouraging and serving all
those in need, offering all generations opportunities for personal and communal growth, and,
by these commitments, to honor our call to evangelization.

PROPHETIC ANOINTING
The solemnity of today’s readings invites us into silent contemplation of the mystery of our redemption. There are so many levels on
which to understand the events of the Passion. The woman who anoints
Jesus acts prophetically in a way that the other disciples do not yet
grasp. Anointing is for priests, prophets, and kings, and also for the
preparation of the dead. It is for healing and for holiness. Her action
acknowledges the imminent events of the passion and death of the
Lord, and points toward his resurrection and triumph over evil and
death. He is priest and victim, prophet and God, King and Lord. All
these things are acknowledged in her prophetic anointing.

RCIA
Holy Week begins today!
Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem with much joy and excitement by the people. There is also much excitement for our elect and candidates as they prepare for
reception of the sacraments at Easter Vigil just six days from today. However, this week ends with the
passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus and there is much to experience with the suffering of Jesus
as he approaches Calvary and the cross on our behalf.
On Monday, March 30, they will attend the annual Chrism Mass and witness the blessing of the Holy
Oils and the renewal of the priests’ commitment of their vows at St. Columban Church. They will be
dismissed along with many elect and candidates from the diocese.
Holy Thursday, they will experience the washing of the feet, followed by dismissal to unfold the experience. Good Friday they will participate in the veneration of the cross, followed by another dismissal to
again deepen their experience. They will attend Saturday morning prayer and the Preparation Rite before the Easter Vigil that evening. As you can imagine, it is an emotional and profoundly spiritual week
for them.
Please continue to pray for them as they move toward the celebration of the sacraments of initiation
into the Catholic faith at the Easter Vigil. Because you are also participants in their initiation, through
prayer, those who wish to offer a card or gift to them, are invited to bring it into the office and we will
see that they receive it after the Vigil.
Thank you for your prayers and support.
Blessings,
Donna Beam, RCIA Director

¿Por qué me has
abandonado?”
