March 22, 2015
Fifth Sunday of lent
Dear Parishioners,
I am both saddened and happy to announce that Fr. John Howren will be
leaving the Cathedral to move into the role of Pastor of St. Lawrence in
Lawrenceville. I know he will be greatly missed by many. His last day with us
will be Sunday, April 12, at which time there will be a reception for him
following the 12:00 Noon Mass.
Fr. Michael Revak from St. Monica’s in Duluth will be joining us beginning
April 14.
I ask that you welcome Fr. Revak to our Cathedral family, and wish Fr.
Howren every blessing as the Pastor of St. Lawrence.
God Bless You,

mercy; Easter Bread - reminiscent of the risen Lord; Butter (often shaped into a
lamb) – symbolic of the Paschal Lamb; Cheese - remind Christians of moderation;
Colored Eggs - indicate hope, and new life; Horseradish - a reminder of the
bitterness and harshness of the Passion of Jesus; Salt -represented to add zest to

comes this year to the Georgia International Convention Center Friday, June 5 –
Saturday, June 6. Please prayerfully consider giving time as a volunteer… your
generosity will be much appreciated. Volunteer registration closes as of May 1 so
that plans may be made according to the number of volunteers committed at that
time. Of particular need each year are volunteers for the Kids Track…please help
spread the word that the number of children who can register and participate in
the Kid Track depends completely on the number of adult volunteers registered
by May 1. You may register online at http://congress.archatl.com/volunteers/.

Stewardship of Treasure
How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
Through the prophet Jeremiah, God promises a new covenant with the house of Israel who
shall be His people. St. Paul reminds us that Christ is the source of our salvation. In St. John’s
Gospel, Jesus proclaims that whoever serves Him will be honored by His Father. This is a
powerful statement to us as Christian stewards who strive to give our time, talent, and
treasure in service to God through the Church and the needy as we hope to obtain eternal
life.

LIFE TEEN: JESUS/FULLY GIVEN
All high schoolers are invited to join us this Sunday for
Life Teen as we continue our series: JESUS. In Jesus we
discover that our God is bigger than our doubts, than our
fears, than our pain. He became fully man, understanding the pain He was being
asked to endure, and yet was still fully God, understanding the depth of our sin
and how we'd turn our backs again and again. Still, He chose to die for us. Christ
is always there on the cross with arms spread wide waiting for us to run back to
Him. This Sunday we explore this gift of love and realize that such a love invites a
response.
Life Teen meets from 5-6:30 pm in Kenny Hall and is open to all High Schoolers,
Catholic or not. Dinner is provided.
EDGE Night
All 7th and 8th grade teens are invited to join us this Sunday

Monday Evening Bible Study
“The Prophets”
Begins Monday, April 20th 7:00 - 8:30 pm in the Hyland Center
God Is Calling You To a Deeper Relationship with Him
If we consider that God is the Divine Bridegroom and the Church is his Bride,
then the prophets can be seen as “spiritual marriage counselors.” They afflict the
comfortable and comfort the afflicted, calling us to return to our covenant
relationship with God. They urge us to repentance, warn us of the dangers of sin,
and announce the blessings of faithfulness. Their prophetic words speak to us
even today, as they draw us closer to our heavenly Bridegroom, and show us how
to share him with others.
The Prophets: Messengers of God’s Mercy is a Catholic Bible study that will draw
you closer to your heavenly Bridegroom.

Queridas familias,

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 5,500 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org or
email us.
May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
