Bishop Kevin J. Farrell is helping to make
this experience possible by arranging for a
Lenten initiative called The Light Is ON For
You. On March 25th and April 1st, all parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Dallas will
have their "lights on" for confession and quiet prayer so that Catholics can come to or
return to this incredible source of God’s
grace, mercy and healing.
Fifth Sunday of Lent
Dear St. Francis Family,
The gospel this weekend reminds us of the inevitability of
trials and sufferings in our lives. “Amen, amen, I say to you,
unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains
just a grain of wheat, but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” (Jn.
12:24)
Sometimes, we think that if we are closely connected to
the Lord, everything goes fine and well in our favor. But life is
not always as we want it to be. Like the disciples who could not
believe that the messiah would suffer and die, that the powerful
would experience the shameful death on the cross, up to the
extent of abandoning Jesus when they saw Him dead hanging
on the cross.
As Christians, we bring the name of Christ in our faith and
the cross serves as its symbol. Jesus said in the synoptic gospels: “If anyone wants to follow me, he must deny himself, take
up his cross and follow me.” (Mt. 16:24), (Lk. 9:23), (Mk.8:34)
Christ Himself showed His followers carrying the cross
and ended up hanging on it. His words in the gospel today:
“Lose yourself in Me and you will find yourself”, should inspire
us to keep going with God despite the trials and challenges that
come along our way. Like the disciples and the saints who follow Jesus to the end and crowned as victors of our faith not because they prayed so much but because they remained faithful to
God till the end of their lives.
May God and St. Francis help us on our way to Him.
Fr. Manny S.
camino a Él.
Padre Manny S.
Religious Education
pm a 8:15 pm.
9:00 am a 2:30 pm.
