ANOINTING OF THE SICK
This week we offer Masses with the anointing of the sick.
They are scheduled for this Monday, March 2 at 12:10 p.m.,
Wednesday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel, and Friday,
March 6 at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel. Anyone in need of
physical healing is encouraged to come forward for the
anointing. Anyone who is physically healthy is encouraged
to come and pray for the sick.
We should not bear it with bad grace if the answer
to our prayer is long delayed. Rather let us
because of this show great patience and
resignation. For He delays for this reason: that we
may offer Him a fitting occasion of honoring us
through His divine providence.
- St. John Chrysostom

if you were unable to attend the weekend Masses. We
depend greatly on your consistent stewardship to the parish
to cover our weekly expenses. Thank you!
EASTER FLOWERS
If you would like to make a donation for Easter flowers in
memory of someone or for a particular intention, please fill
out one of the forms available at the doors of the church, or
use the form below. You can drop these into the collection
basket or mail them to the Rectory. Your intentions will be
remembered throughout the season of Easter. We suggest a
$25 donation but any contribution is appreciated.
PLEASE PRAY FOR. . .
Irma, Maureen, Marie, Jeanne
ST. VINCENT de PAUL
Lent is a call not just to “give up something” but more
important to “give something for the poor.” Wherever you
live in the parish, there are poor families within walking
distance of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory
bell. They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell.
Your almsgiving in the St. Vincent de Paul poor box will
help the poor to celebrate the grace of God’s love this Easter.
When we struggle with our own weaknesses, Change our
hearts, O God! When we resist the call to conversion,
Change our hearts, O God! When we become bitter and
judgmental, Change our hearts, O God! Amen.
DONATION FOR EASTER FLOWERS
(We suggest a $25 donation but any contribution
is welcome & appreciated.)

“The love that brings new life into the world”
– Rabbi Sacks on the institution of marriage
continued from last week
As long as the man thought he was immortal, he ultimately needed no one else. But now he knew he was
mortal. He would one day die and return to dust. There was only one way in which something of him would
live on after his death. That would be if he had a child. But he could not have a child on his own. For that he
needed his wife. She alone could give birth. She alone could mitigate his mortality. And not because she was
like him but precisely because she was unlike him. At that moment she ceased to be, for him, a type, and
became a person in her own right. And a person has a proper name. That is what he gave her: the name
Chavah, “Eve,” meaning, “giver of life.”
At that moment, as they were about to leave Eden and face the world as we know it, a place of darkness,
Adam gave his wife the first gift of love, a personal name. And at that moment, God responded to them both
in love, and made them garments to clothe their nakedness, or as Rabbi Meir put it, “garments of light.”
And so it has been ever since, that when a man and woman turn to one another in a bond of faithfulness, God
robes them in garments of light, and we come as close as we will ever get to God himself, bringing new life
into being, turning the prose of biology into the poetry of the human spirit, redeeming the darkness of the
world by the radiance of love.
SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK
We encourage everyone to continue reading the Acts of the
Apostles this week …
ACTS OF THE APOSTLES – CHAPTER 19 PART 5
When they heard this, they were filled with fury and began
to shout, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!” The city was
filled with confusion, and the people rushed with one accord
into the theater, seizing Gaius and Aristarchus, the
Macedonians, Paul’s traveling companions. Paul wanted to
go before the crowd, but the disciples would not let him, and
even some of the Asiarchs who were friends of his sent word
to him advising him not to venture into the theater.

LENTEN REGULATIONS
Abstinence – Catholics over 14 years of age are bound to
the obligation of abstinence. Abstinence is to be observed
on Ash Wednesday and on all Fridays of Lent. On days of
abstinence, meat may not be eaten at all.
Fast – Catholics over 18 and up to the beginning of their
60th year are bound to the obligation of fasting. Ash
Wednesday and Good Friday are the days of fasting. On
these days, only one full meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken
according to each one’s needs, but together they should not
equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed.
These Lenten regulations state the minimum requirements.
Other recommended practices during this season include
participating in daily Mass and fasting on other days.
EMMAUS MINISTRY FOR GRIEVING PARENTS
The Emmaus Ministry serves the needs of parents whose
children have died. During Lent, this ministry is offering a

place on Fridays at 7:00 p.m. (English), and on Saturdays at

Second Sunday of Lent

$ 8,199.
Iglesia.
