PASTORAL LETTER FOR FEB 2015
Hello everyone, another busy month ahead for South
Street! I have mentioned a number of times recently the
upcoming Church Meeting on Feb.2nd. At the risk of
being accused of needless repetition, can I strongly
encourage all members and potential members of our
church to come along on that night. By today (Jan.25th)
you will have received the draft discussion document
that will form the basis for our meeting. Please read it
carefully and prayerfully – an awful lot of work has gone
into it! On Feb.2nd we will discuss that document
specifically and we will welcome any questions that
relate to it. If you have questions that are peripheral to
the areas that are addressed therein, and/or we don’t
have time to consider them on the night, can I
encourage you to write those down and give them to
any of the elders. These will be then addressed at a later
date. We will, of course, be looking to make time for
prayer at the conclusion of that meeting – I am both
encouraged and excited at the possibilities and
opportunities that lie ahead over the next few years.
ADVANCE NOTICES:
Saturday March 7th 2015, This is the time when we
go away for a day as a whole church family; this year, as
usual we will be at The Woolacombe Bay Hotel. It's a
time of great fellowship, good Bible teaching, lovely
food, uplifting praise and worship – all in a beautiful
setting! Although donations are welcome on the day, the
costs of our away day largely come out of our church
funds. We'll be welcoming a great Bible teacher, Chris
Sinkinson to bring the message. There will still be plenty
of time for relaxation, catching up with new friends, a
walk on the beach and so on. Please let Richard or
myself know as soon as possible as we do need to know
numbers for catering.
Saturday March 14th.2015. We will be welcoming the
excellent Saltmine Theatre Company as they present
their brilliant new drama: Amazing Grace; The Story of
John Newton.
Details of time, venue and ticket prices are shown
elsewhere in this newsletter.
This will be a great opportunity for outreach as it is a
challenging presentation for Christians and nonChristians alike.
We will be starting our new housegroup programme in
early March where we will spend most of 2015 studying
and preaching through the wonderful Gospel of John.
For those who are thinking about a housegroup, this
would be a perfect opportunity to join one ! Do let me
know your availability – we have groups that meet from
Monday to Thursday, morning, afternoon and evening –
so we should be able to find a group that suits you !
Every blessing,
Pastor Peter

Important
An important message from the ladies prayer meeting
which meets at Connie's on the 1st Thursday of the
month 10-11am
Due to various members of this group having moved
away, gone to be with the Lord or become infirm, we
are now very small in numbers.
New ladies are much needed to join in this vital work
of bringing the life of our church, community and
wider world to the Lord in prayer.
Please pray and consider if you could support this
work which is a commitment of just one hour per
month. The next meeting is Thursday February 5th
It would be so good to see you there!
A MESSAGE FROM TIM BISHOP:
As you probably know, I take donated food from
the churches in Braunton (ChristChurch, South
Street and St. Brannocks) to Encompass
Southwest – a local charity helping the poor and
homeless in Devon. From the three churches I
usually collect half a boot full each month. I
started thinking : If everyone who comes to the
services at these three churches were to use
50p or so of their housekeeping money each
week to buy a tin of beans or a packet of rice or
similar and bring it to church then I would be
able to take a full car load into the Encompass
store each week and we would also be able to
help the food bank in Barnstaple. It would not
cure the poverty in North Devon immediately but
it would go a long way towards that. Now there
is a thought!!
If you are able to help and would like to, in
ChristChurch there is a box under the table
in the vestibule with a list that shows what
food would be most useful to those in
need.
Vision for Asia – advance notices;
Skittles night – please see the flyer and then
put the date in your diaries .
Next Ladies Lunch is Weds 4th March, 12.30 at
