Introducing Fr. Philip Thottam Msfs
Fr. Philip Thottam msfs, was born on 7th March 1977 at
Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam District, Kerala State, India.
The youngest of the eight children of Mr. Joseph Thottathil
and Theresia Joseph. I have three brothers and four sisters.
Educated in a Catholic convent school until I successfully
completed my High School and at the age of 15 I joined the
MSFS Minor Seminary, Maharastra Goa Province in 1992.
I made my Final Vows in January 2004 and was ordained a
Priest on January 3rd 2005.
My first appointment was to the Novitiate where the Young
Novices to Religious Life are trained.
After six months of ministry at the Novitiate I was sent to
do my Masters in Counselling and Formation at the Pontifical institute of Philosophy and theology of Dharmaram
Vidhya Kshetram, Bangalore, Karnataka.
During this period I also completed my Msc. Psychology
from Madras University. Having completed my studies in
2007 May,
I was appointed as Vice-Rector of SFS Institute Minor Seminary, Goa.
In June 2013 I was transferred to Mumbai, Nallasopara, as
an assistant Parish Priest and School counsellor at
St. Francis De Sales Parish and school.
In 2014 June I went back to the Minor Seminary as the
Rector and Superior.
In May 2015, the Provincial Proposed to me to work in Australia as a Pastor in the Diocese of Broken Bay and I have
happily agreed to extend my ministry to a new land.
My dear Community of Toukley and Lake Munmorah.
Welcome back! To start another year 2015, there is a lot of
noise in the air, in the good sense of the word, which implies we are alive, we are awake, and ready to go.. move
on….
The common theme of today’s readings is Divine authority
reflected by the prophets of the Old Testament in their messages, by the apostles (including St. Paul), in their writings
and teaching in the New Testament, and by Jesus in his
teaching and healing ministry.
A story to help us reflect further.
The Authority of Jesus
The church in the world is a lot like the story that E. Stanley
Jones tells of the missionary in the jungle. He got lost with
nothing around him but bush and a few cleared places. He
finally found a small village and asked one of the natives if
he could lead him out of the jungle. The native said he
could. "All right," the missionary said, "Show me the way."
They walked for hours through dense brush hacking their
way through unmarked jungle. The missionary began to
worry and said, "Are you quite sure this is the way? Where
is the path?" The native said. "Bwana, in this place there is
no path. I am the path."
Our path out of the jungle of this world is God in Christ.
We may have some Rabbis, Masters, Father's, Teachers,
and Reverends but we are all like the missionary. We rely
not upon men but Christ who is our path. Brett Blair
With all good wishes for a joyful beginning
