“If you want your children to be
intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you
want them to be very intelligent, read
them more fairy tales.” ~ Albert Einstein
nce upon a time…Oh
how I loved those words
when my dad would read me a
fairy tale. I would sit upon his
lap – the best comfy seat a child
could ask for! There were no
shortages of fairy tales to be read
as my uncle had provided me
with a 12 volume series of books
(My Book House) filled with a
multitude of wonderful fairy
tales, not to mention the colorful, artistic illustrations.
Whether it was Aesop, Hans Christen Anderson or the
Brothers Grimm, I would be swept away to another
time; a foreign place; the deep dark woods where
animals transformed themselves into humans or vice
versa – whether good or evil.
This fond memory came to thought when I saw that
February 26, 2015 is National Tell A Fairy Tale Day!
How wonderful is that? I have been looking for a
reason to dig out those books – yes I still have the 12 volumes (along with
my Tiny Tears Doll and Easy Bake Oven). Remember the old saying “you
don’t stop playing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop
playing!” The same goes with imagination and creativity! The above
quote from Einstein may have been directed to children, but I believe it is
ageless. Science says that when we learn, another wrinkle forms in our
brains or “gray matter”! A good reason why one should never try and
cover up the gray or the wrinkles – whether on the inside or outside – they
are signs of experience, learning, wisdom and a life well lived!
Television has produced two series this past year – “Grimm” and “Once
Upon A Time” and even Disney has made a full-length film “Into the
Woods” based on several Grimm Tales. None of these productions evoke
the same thoughts and emotions as the ones I heard while snuggled, warm,
cozy & safely wrapped in the arms of my Dad while I sat upon his lap. The
stories were quite scary, at the time I felt quite secure as I felt I was
shielded from anything bad. Today, on the other hand, as I watch a human(Continued on page 10)

Scam Alert
We have received reports from several seniors in the WNY area
who have received calls from an individual fraudulently claiming
to be an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) representative. The caller
will typically say that money is owed for a tax obligation and/or
that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against the person. They often
demand immediate payment. Be aware that the IRS has issued an
alert regarding these phone scams. It is important for taxpayers to
know that the IRS:
• Never asks for credit card, debit card or prepaid card
information over the telephone
• Never insists that taxpayers use a specific payment method
to pay tax obligations
• Never requests immediate payment over the telephone and
will not take enforcement action immediately following a
phone conversation. Taxpayers usually receive prior
notification of IRS enforcement actions involving IRS tax
liens or levies.
If you receive one of these calls and think that you may owe
taxes, hang up and contact the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 to
determine whether there is a real issue. If you know that you have
received an “IRS” phone call that is a scam, report the incident to
the IRS at [email protected] . A complaint may also be filed with
the FTC through their Complaint Assistant.
If a victim of one of these scams has experienced any monetary
losses, contact your lawyer for assistance.
