members and the people they serve
About Bond
Bond is the UK membership body for organisations working in international development or
supporting those that do through funding, research, training and other services. Our network is
growing and we now have over 450 organisations in membership, and many thousands of
individuals engaged with our work through special interest groups, international campaigns, events
and conferences.
2015 is a crucial year for development we have exciting new plans for increased investment in
supporting our members. We are building on the successes of our winning team and want to deliver
an ambitious new plan to secure the future of our sector and the millions of people our members
serve. Bond plays an important role in supporting UK NGOs to be more effective. We are tackling
some of the most pressing issues facing the sector in the areas of funding policy and practice,
programme performance and evaluation, organisational effectiveness, and transparency. As part of
this investment we are looking for dynamic individuals who will help us to drive the effectiveness
agenda forward amongst the NGO community.
Main purpose of the job
To increase the effectiveness of NGOs and other international development organisations by:
 Offering support services and customer support to NGOs to increase their effectiveness,
particularly in relation to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, transparency and learning

Supporting the monitoring of and learning from Bond’s effectiveness services

Contributing to Effectiveness and Learning team discussions about the future direction of
Bond’s effectiveness and learning services.
Main responsibilities




Providing first response to member queries on Bond’s effectiveness, transparency and
funding services
Handling queries and basic support for NGOs and others seeking to publish data to the
International Aid Transparency Initiative IATI) registry.
Handling queries and basic support for NGOs undertaking the Bond Health Check.
Supporting ELT colleagues in in planning and coordinating events (in coordination with
events staff in the Membership and Communications team)





Managing contacts and mailing distribution lists for effectiveness, transparency and funding
services
Working with the Membership and Communications team, promote Bond tools and services
through diverse channels
Preparation and distribution of effectiveness bulletins and other communications, and
updating the Effectiveness section of Bond’s website
Establishing and overseeing monitoring systems to ensure reliable data collection on use of
services, and client satisfaction. Other administrative support and forward planning for
Bond’s effectiveness, transparency and funding services
Contributing to discussions about the future direction of ELT and its services
Main contacts
Bond’s members and stakeholders, Effectiveness and Learning team, Membership and
Communications Team and Policy and Campaigns Team.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
Familiarity with current issues relating to NGO effectiveness and/or organisational change processes
Experience of developing, maintaining and improving office systems
Experience of gathering project monitoring or client satisfaction/ feedback data
Experience of a customer-facing role
Excellent organisational skills
Fully competent in using MS Word, MS Excel, databases, email and internet
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to priorities tasks, manage workload and work to tight deadlines
High level of literacy and numeracy
Experience of organising meetings and events
Accuracy and attention to detail
Diplomacy and tact
Proven ability to work flexibly as a member of a small team, as well as independently and on own
initiative
Commitment to learning and self-improvement

Understanding of the international development sector
Experience of membership-based organisations such as networks, ideally within the charity/NGO
sector
