PREVIEW
City sees run on construction of new singlefamily homes
Construction of single-family homes in Jackson accelerated to a pace in 2014 not seen in the last seven years.
The city of Jackson issued permits for the construction
of four single-family homes last year, the most since 2007.
The number of new residential construction permits issued
in 2014 — for single-family homes, duplexes and apartments
combined — is also the highest since 2011.
For more details and analysis, pick up a copy of this
week’s Jackson County Pilot, available at newsstand locations throughout the county, including at the ExpressWay
in Jackson. Or call the Pilot office at 847-3771 or go to
jacksoncountypilot.com to start your print or electronic
subscription today.
This week’s Pilot is also packed with extras, including
a full-color, full-page salute to the Windom Area boys’ and
girls’ hockey teams.

The family of Gail Dunker would like to
thank everyone for their kindness and sympathy
during Gail’s illness and eventual death. The
benefits coordinated by Patty Morton, Jeff and
Keri Luhmann and several others were a true
testiment to the impact Gail had on Jackson
and the surrounding communities. We would
not have been able to spend the time we did in
Rochester without this help, and you will never
know how much that meant to this family.
Special thanks to Pastor Isaacson for his
visits and phone calls over the last two months,
and to everyone at Our Savior’s church for all
your hard work at a time when we needed it. You
have all helped make a very difficult time just a
little easier.

Sweet Bobo
Greetings! My name is Bobo.
I was found last October on the
streets of Jackson, near death from
having to fend for myself for too
long. Today I am happy, healthy,
and very affectionate with people I
know well. I am a bit shy with new people at first, and would prefer a quiet
home where I can run and play, and snuggle with you when you get home.
The folks here think I am around 2 years old; I am neutered, up to date on
shots, and house-trained. I get along well with friendly kitties. My only fear
is of winding up outside again; I run to my safe spot to hide whenever a door
opens, so I need an indoor-only home. If you are interested in adopting me
or any PAWS animal, please email [email protected] (preferred),
or text or leave a voice message at 507-841-2822.

A THANK YOU from the family of William
“Bill” Kremmin: A friendly smile, a casual
touch, these are the things that mean so
much. To know you are with us in our time
of sorrow, sharing our prayers today and
tomorrow. God gives us comfort in the
form of family and friends. May his peace
be with you, His love never ends. We are
overwhelmed at the outpouring support
we have received from all the food,
calls, flowers/plants, memorials, HUGS,
prayers and comforting words. Thanks
to Pastor Tim Wrenn for the wonderful
sermon honoring “Our Farmer Bill”; Joel
and staff at Lacanne Funeral Home for
helping handle things so professionally,
but personal. We have lost someone very
special, thank you all for sharing our grief.

February Prairie Ecology Bus Center classes
February classes at the
Prairie Ecology Bus Center
at Sparks Park in Lakefield
will explore what life was
like for pioneers, as well as
the lore behind rainsticks,
an intriguing folk instrument common among many
cultures.
“A Day in the Pioneer
Life” on Thursday, Feb.
5, takes participants back
in time to learn about the
lives of early farmers on the
prairie and their families.
Attendees will discover
through stories and activities why people settled here
and the challenges they
encountered establishing
homesteads. The class is
from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Sparks
Park and is open to children
in grades three and above,
and their families.
On Monday, Feb. 16,
youth in grades three and
above are invited to discover
native rainstick legends
from different cultures
and learn how, when and
where the folk instrument
is used. During “Legend of
the Rainstick,” children will
hear the magical Legend
of the rainstick and create,
decorate and play with their
own rainsticks. The class is
from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Registration is required
for all programs. Those
interested may call 6625064 or email Marilyn@

YOU READ IT RIGHT - 100 GUNS WILL BE GIVEN AWAY!
So what is this event? Southern Archery of Spencer, Iowa has offered us 100 guns to raffle off the night of

Doors open at 5pm and by purchasing a ticket you will get in on the chili feed prepared by Kazarelli’s from 5pm to
7:30pm plus the opportunity to purchase as many gun chances as you would like to win. We are only raffling guns!
There are no silent or live auctions and this isn’t your daddy’s style banquet, this is a gun bash! Gun values will range
from $2,500 on down. We are raffling off new and preowned handguns, rifles and shotguns. There will be no single shot
shotguns at this event.
Also rooms are available at discounted rates if you want to make a weekend of it!
Arrowwood is offering you a special room rate of $75 per night; per room (all fees and taxes are included in this
rate). You will need to tell them you are there for the Ducks Unlimited Event, to secure this rate. This offer is for
event attendees only and you are responsible for payment separate from the Gun Bash. Offer is good for Friday,
February 6th and/or Saturday, February 7th, 2015.
