classmate, or co-worker. Deliveries with be on Friday, January 13th. HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!
Code Day: Another Code Day is coming up February 14-15. This day is held in Des Moines. We're helping students
learn how to program so they can better prepare themselves for their future, and if you want some more information
feel free to check out https://codeday.org/desmoines. This is a super activity and chance to meet other young people
learning to code.
Seniors and Guardians: The yearbook staff and school are collecting senior pictures to be placed into the 2014-2015
GMG Yearbook as well as in the senior composite. The following are the guidelines and requirements for pictures
submitted to the yearbook and composite:
Pictures are preferred to be headshots. (Note: pictures will appear smaller in the yearbook. Any picture
that is full body or a far away shot will not appear as nicely as a head shot)
Pictures can be black and white OR full color.
Pictures handed in must be a wallet size.
Pictures for YEARBOOK can be handed in hard copy OR by e-mail from the photographer
Pictures for COMPOSITE must be a hard copy (wallet size)
Picture must be of the senior only. Photos with people other than said senior or of multiple people will
not be accepted.
* Photos MUST be submitted by Friday, March 13thth 2015 to Mrs. Johnson as well as Mrs. Claassen. Seniors who
fail to provide a photo by this date will not be included in the yearbook and may not be included in the senior
composite or the senior section of the Times Republican. If any student cannot afford to get senior pictures, the
yearbook staff will gladly help to take photos for that student so they can be in the yearbook.
* The yearbook staff and school reserves the right to crop any photo, or use a different photo for the senior page if
the photo provided does not fulfill requirements.
* Please hand in all pictures to Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Claassen. If you want to use the SAME hard copy photo for
both, you may give it to Mrs. Johnson to scan and then she will pass it along to Mrs. Claassen.

Marshall County Law Enforcement Explorer Program: Do you have an interest in a career in Law Enforcement? Law
Enforcement careers include the following and more: sheriff, county deputy, city police officer, probation officer,
prosecuting attorney, corrections officer, detective, crime scene technician, highway patrol, Department of
Transportation officer, undercover officer, etc. Marshall County has a Law Enforcement Explorer Program. The
program is for young men and women who are at least 14 but not yet 21 years old. The Explorer Program's purpose
is to provide experiences to help young people mature and become responsible and caring adults. Those who
participate attend regular meetings and learn about the various opportunities in law enforcement. Participants also
get the opportunity to accompany an officer during his shift once a month. If you would be interested in participating
in the Law Enforcement Explorer Program, please let Mr. Polich, Mr. Pierson, or any staff member know. Look for
future announcements regarding the Marshall County Explorer Program.
College Goal Sunday - Get Help Filling out the FAFSA : Do you need help filling out your FAFSA (Free Application
for Federal Student Aid)? Go to www.IowaCGS.org to find a list of all the dates and locations of College
Goal Sunday for 2015. Marshalltown Community College will host CGS events on the following dates (Times in
parentheses): February 26 (4 - 7 pm) March 1 (2 - 5 pm) March 3 (4 - 7 pm). The University fo Northern Iowa will
host a CGS event February 9 (3 - 8 pm). Iowa State University will host an event on February 21 (9 am - 12 pm) To
repeat, you can go to www.IowACGS.org to find the dates and locations of CGS events in February and March.

SENIORS are reminded to drop by the guidance once a week to see if information on any new scholarships has arrived.
SENIORS are also reminded to check their e-mail as I forward or send out scholarship information via e-mail on a

NEW SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION – JUST ARRIVED!
(1) Beane/Squires Scholarship … This scholarship will pay $12,000 ($3,000 per year) for 4 years of study leading
to a bachelor’s degree … This scholarship is available to a young person who is (1) a graduating senior who
lives in the Green Mountain-Garwin area, or any other applicant the scholarship committee may choose (2)
involved in a broad range of extracurricular school activities with a preference for the fine arts (3) involved in the
community through various organizations and activities (4) currently active in some church and committed to
being active in a church while in college and beyond and (5) consciously choosing a life that reflects Christ-like
principles … Applications are to be filled out and returned by April 1, 2015 to Daniel and Sarah Squires Beane
… Selected candidates will be interviewed on Sunday afternoon and evening, April 12, 2015 at the home of Dan
and Sarah Beane
(2) Robert & JoAnn Jensen Scholarships …. Two scholarships that will pay up to $12,000 ($3,000 per year) to two
members of the GMG Class of 2015 … Eligible applicants must (1) be a full time GMG student in the second
semester of his/her senior year (2) plan to attend an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the
State of Iowa (3) be able to show financial need and (4) demonstrate good character and good citizenship at all
times … Applications must be submitted to the GMG guidance office by Friday, April 3, 2015
(3) Marshall County Izaak Walton League Scholarship … A $1,000 college scholarship for a deserving student
who is working toward a degree in a field related to Conservation or Environmental Studies … Applicants
must be residents of Marshall County … Application Deadline: March 15, 2015
(4) Consumers Energy Line Worker/Power Line Scholarship … A $1,000 scholarship to any applicant enrolling
in a line worker program …. Scholarship is limited to Iowa residents and preference will be given to Consumers
Energy members … Application Deadline: April 1, 2015
(5) Consumers Energy Academic Scholarships … Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to applicants pursuing a
post secondary education in a full-time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or
four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school …. Applicants must be dependents of Consumers
Energy members … Application Deadline: April 1, 2015
(6) Iowa Professional Golfers Association Foundation’s Charlie Burkhart Scholarship … Winner will receive
$1,000 each year of full-time attendance for 4 years at a college or university of their choice … Scholarship is
open to any graduating senior within the Iowa PGA section boundaries and any graduating student of an Iowa
high school … Winners are selected on the (1) basis of their interest and activity in golf (2) the potential for
future contributions to the game (3) academic ability and (4) financial need …. Applications must be completed
and mailed to the scholarship committee prior to June 12, 2015
(7) Heart of Iowa Communications Cooperative’s $500 Educational Grant Program … Area high school
students who reside with Cooperative Member Parent(s) or Guardian(s) in one of the HOI Cooperative’s districts
or Venture exchanges are eligible … Applicants must be going to either a two-year or a four-year accredited
college or an accredited vocational school … Applicants must be in good standing in both the school and the
community …. Application Deadline: Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 4:30 pm
(8) Foundation for Rural Service College Scholarship Program …. A national college scholarship that awards
thirty one-time scholarships of $2,000 each … HOI will add and additional $500 should a student from the HOI
service area be selected to receive one of these scholarships … Applicants may also be eligible for one of four
Staurulakis Family Scholarship ($5,000 each) or two TMS Scholarships ($1,500 each) or the Everett Kneece
Return to Rural America Scholarship ($2,500) or the Colt Ford Scholarship (up to $15,000) … Completed

cash register receipts that are put in each applicant’s envelope in the store in the next few months. Scholarship
