 New York, NY, January 28, 2015 -­‐ The Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) & Ars Sutoria School in Milan, Italy announce the Joseph C. Moore Footwear Scholarship, in honor of Joseph C. Moore, former President & CEO of FFANY. Ars Sutoria school, an international institute of footwear and leather goods design, has created the Joseph C. Moore Scholarship to honor their friend and longtime advocate, Joe Moore. The scholarship was created to recognize Joe for his continuous support in helping young designers and impassioned footwear members of the new generation to be more prepared for the challenges of today’s industry. In appreciation of FFANY’s and Joe’s partnership and support, a scholarship to receive advanced technical training will be awarded to the most worthy footwear design student graduating in the summer of 2015. The scholarship is being offered at the following 3 leading East Coast design schools: Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Parsons The New School of Design and the Rhode Island School of Design. The scholarship will provide the opportunity to attend a 13-­‐week shoe patternmaking and prototyping course at Ars Sutoria in Milan. The scholarship will cover free tuition valued at $11,700, accommodation at the Ars Sutoria residence valued at $ 5,000, in addition to round trip airfare for a total scholarship value of over $17,000. The training program will run from August 26th through November 20th, 2015 Additionally, to recognize the talent and efforts of the semifinalists, Ars Sutoria will reward the 2nd and 3rd place students with the opportunity to take the Ars Sutoria e-­‐learning footwear design course launched in 2014. The online footwear course, which focuses on the art of shoe making and technical aspects, is already being utilized by many footwear companies for the training of employees. By February 15th, 2015, participating students will submit their entries to their respective faculty advisor. By March 15th, 2015, the advisor will choose 3 to 4 finalists and submit for presentation to Ars Sutoria and FFANY for judging. The final winner will be announced on April 15th, 2015 The judging committee is comprised of the following 5 footwear industry veterans: Robert Mingione, President of RobertoVasi Footwear, Lisa Cronin, VP of Design and development at BCNY Intl/Synclaire Brands, Wendy Sani, Senior Director of International Course Development at Ars Sutoria and Joe Moore. For the finalists selection, Anna Bakst, President, Shoes and Accessories at Michael Kors, will join the judging team to oversee the selection of the scholarship winner. The winner will be honored at the FFANY Industry event to be held on June 2nd, 2015 at Brasserie 8 ½ in New York City, during the FFANY market to be held June 2-­‐4. The winner and semi-­‐finalist’s affiliated school faculty will also be invited to attend the presentation along with the footwear industry. FFANY and ARS Sutoria plan to continue the Joseph C. Moore scholarship program for future years and to extend the scholarship eligibility to other prestigious footwear design schools. Moore, honoree of the Ars Sutoria Footwear Scholarship, recently retired as President and CEO of the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) and Chairman of Fashion Footwear Charitable Foundation (FFCF). Joe has been a distinguished force in the footwear industry, as a business leader and benefactor. He had a meteoric rise in the fashion industry where he has spent his entire career. Starting in a family owned children’s store while attending university, he followed onto Bullocks, Los Angeles then to Neiman Marcus where he introduced the Salvatore Ferragamo and Charles Jourdan lines. Joe became President and CEO of Charles Jourdan USA, then held positions at Saks Fifth Avenue where he achieved substantial success. Throughout his career he has been a valued mentor to many.
