MNGOP 2014 Report - The Republican Party of Minnesota

Executive Summary
I
t’s a great time to be a Republican!
Here at home we captured a new majority in the Minnesota House, gaining 11 seats and ending total
Democrat control. Nationally, Republicans added 13 more seats in the US House to create a historic
majority and re-took the US Senate, gaining 9 seats. These are significant accomplishments that Republicans across the Country and here in Minnesota will build from as we fight for Growth and Opportunity
for all.
Your State Party continued to improve in 2014 both operationally and financially. We were able to
support our endorsed candidates through the Primary and with a statewide victory program, while
simultaneously meeting our financial obligations and paying down debt.
Our turnaround is over. The comeback
has begun. With a new majority in the
State House and a stable State Party we
can look to the future with confidence.
Thank you for everything you do to help
our Party and our candidates. But
especially, thank you for your abiding
belief in the shared ideals that make our
Country great and that make the
Republican Party the Party of Growth
and Opportunity!
Sincerely,
Keith Downey, Chairman
Republican Party of Minnesota

Republicans win
house majority
T
wo years of total Democrat control in Saint Paul are over,
now that Republicans have retaken the MN House.
Republicans protected all incumbents and open districts and
flipped 11 seats that were held by Democrats. Speaker Kurt Daudt
will preside over the new majority, pledging to put Minnesotans first
and to “… work on solving the problems that Minnesotans care
about.” Congratulations to our new Speaker and to our incoming
Republican Majority!

Minnesota Congressional victories
send three to Washington
J
ohn Kline and Erik Paulsen are returning to Congress thanks to voters in the 2nd and 3rd districts.
Tom Emmer prevailed in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional district, replacing the retiring Michele
Bachmann. These terrific Minnesotans are superb fits for their districts and we are proud to
send them back to Washington to carry our wishes for smaller government and more freedom.
Minnesota voters also served notice in close elections in the 1st, 7th, and 8th congressional districts
that these areas are trending Republican as well!

Making Progress
T
hese maps from the Minnesota Office of the Secretary of State show the improvement in
Republican performance in 2014 compared to earlier elections.
The quality of our candidates, our Party’s ability to back them, and the mounting evidence that Democrat
ideas are failing will continue to help to propel Minnesota’s trending toward red.

Republicans launch Solution
Center to champion the ideas
of Growth and Opportunity
M
innesotans deserve more than they are getting from state government. The MNGOP
Solution Center will advance ideas that work and solve real problems faced by Minnesotans. There are many excellent ideas being generated by Republican legislators and conservative
groups and organizations, but until now there has been no coordinated effort to communicate those
ideas directly to Minnesota.
In 2014 the State Party launched the Solution Center (mngop.com/our-party/solution-center/), developing
12 Causes that Republicans of all stripes can get behind.
Each cause has a description, a framework describing Republican solutions that will encourage Growth
and Opportunity for all, specific proposed legislation that can deliver these results for the people of our
State, as well as other resources for conservatives and for the public.
Minnesota is tired of the false compassion of ideas that don’t work. Republicans are the Party of the
people and it’s time to show that to Minnesotans.
GROWTH AND OPPORTUNITY PARTY
We Care. Our Ideas Work.
We will lead.
