“SPEAKING WITH AUTHORITY”
On this fourth Sunday of the Ordinary Time, Saint Mark’s Gospel presents
to us Jesus’ visit in the synagogue at Capernaum, where He taught on the
Sabbath. Jesus was doing what any ordinary Jewish male could do, that is,
proclaiming and explaining the message to those present. But according to
Mark’s report that visit and preaching was not business as usual because
this new preacher speaks and teaches as one having authority and not as the
scribes. Saint Mark continues to tell us of the reaction of those who were
listening to Jesus speaking: “All were amazed and asked one another,
“What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him” (Mark 1:27). Jesus’ authority did not come
only from the way He taught and spoke but mostly from the content of His
message. Jesus gets His authority straight from His Father’s love and consistent reflection between His words and actions. Jesus’ word is so powerful and effective even the evil spirits obey when He speaks. May Jesus’
love, His power and authority be manifested in every aspect of our life!
Blessings! Fr. Quesnel

“LI PALE AK OTORITE”
Nan 4em Dimanch Tan Òdine an sen Mak ap pataje ak nou premye
vizit ak premye lansèyman ke Jezu te bay nan sinagòg Kafanaòm lan jou
saba a.
Li tap preche ak otorite epi anpil konviksyon. Yon otorite ki sòti dirèkteman nan pouvwa Bondye Papa-a te ba Li an.
Menm move lespri yo, li pase yo lòd ak otorite,
yo obeyi li (Mak 1:27).
Otorite Jezu an pat chita sèlman nan jan L tap pale, nan jan L tap preche men sitou nan sa L tap di ak sa L tap fè paske otorite Li- an pat sòti

quedan algunos cabos sueltos.
