Parish Improvement Project
A Fundraising Campaign for Improvements to our Parish
We are asking each parish family to make a commitment towards the Parish
Improvement Project (PIP):
1. Make a Pledge. Pledge payments can be made weekly or monthly.
2. Purchase an Engraved Tile. The tiles will be displayed in the new
courtyard outside the church’s east doors.
Pledge and tile forms are available at the Parish Center and/or Church
entrances. We also ask that you please take a pledge form home and ask your
family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to support the sustainability and the
future of St. Genevieve.
Your support of the Parish Improvement Project (PIP) will ensure that St.

Today's Readings: Ex 22:20-26; Ps 18:2-4, 47, 51; 1 Thes 1:5c-10; Mt 22:34-40
What the first reading calls aliens are immigrants or newcomers.
They lived among the Hebrews, but were not Jews themselves. The
Lord reminds the people that they were once aliens themselves.
The They should not make the same mistake the Egyptians did
when they mistreated the Israelites. God uses the same logic in
commanding them to take care of widows and orphans. Treat them
like family, or else your own wives and children will be in the same
situation.
The reason for such compassion should be deeper than just fear of
punishment. Jesus said, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself "
(Matthew 22:39). He called this the second commandment. The first
is to love God wholly and completely, heart, mind, and soul. If the
second commandment is the Golden Rule, the first might be called
the Diamond Rule. If you think about it, in order to keep the first
commandment, you have to be keeping the second as well.
Jesus said that whatever you do for the poor, the homeless, the sick,
or prisoners, you do for him (Matthew 25:31-46). We can't really say
we love God if we don't love the people God created.
So that gives us two reasons to love our neighbor. First, because
God lives in other people, so loving God means loving God
wherever God is found. Second, God loves them, so if we are to
be holy, we must be like God. What does that mean? Remember
the saying that "charity begins at home"? It doesn't end there.
If we truly love God, we will extend our charity to those outside
our homes. People are probably still rebuilding after earthquakes,
tornadoes, floods, and other disasters, and every city has some kind
of homeless shelters. You say you love God? Let's see you love your
neighbor.
Is All Saints Day a Holy Day of Obligation?
Saturday, November 1st, 2014
In the United States and other countries, the bishops have received permission from the Vatican to abrogate (temporarily waive) the
requirement for Catholics to attend Mass on certain Holy Days of Obligation when those Holy Days fall on either Saturday or Monday.
Because of this, some Catholics have become confused about whether certain Holy Days are, in fact, Holy Days of Obligation. All Saints
Day is a Holy Day of Obligation. However, because it falls on a Saturday this year, the obligation to attend Mass is abrogated. Of course,
even if we aren’t required to attend, celebrating All Saints Day by attending Mass is a wonderful way to honor the saints, who constantly
intercede with God for us.

Una Campaña de Recaudación de Fondos para Mejoramientos de la Parroquia

LA LEY Y LOS "PROVECHOS"
Las leyes son para aquellos que no saben amar. Y todos estamos
en ese grupo en uno u otro momento. Necesitamos leyes que nos
guíen para hacer lo correcto cuando somos incapaces de actuar
o pensar en forma amorosa. Pero el amor es mejor. Si amáramos
perfectamente, no habría necesidad de leyes. Si amáramos a Dios
perfectamente, no heriríamos ni ofenderíamos a nuestro prójimo,
porque veríamos el rostro de nuestro Amado en el rostro de nuestro
prójimo. Si permitiéramos que Dios posea todo nuestro ser, nuestro
corazón, nuestra alma y nuestra mente-- o como se dice en teología,
intelecto, memoria, y voluntad--entonces sabríamos lo que es
correcto y cómo tratar a nuestros semejantes. No sólo sabríamos lo
que es correcto, sino que querríamos hacerlo y amaríamos a la otra
persona lo suficiente para hacerlo gustosamente, por amor a Dios.
COMPASIÓN Y JUSTICIA
Porque no somos perfectos ni en nuestro amor, ni en nada, Jesús
vino con gran amor para enseñarnos a amar. Con gran compasión,
nos mostró cómo tratarnos unos a otros, tanto en sus enseñanzas
como con su vida, muerte y resurrección. Tenemos ante nosotros
muchos ejemplos de quienes han vivido esta ley de amor y de
vida. Los tesalonicenses con su gran fe bajo condiciones difíciles
fueron un ejemplo para otros en su época. El Éxodo nos da muchos
ejemplos de la forma en que hemos de tratar a otros con justicia
y compasión: no privaremos a otro de su único abrigo del frío,
usaremos nuestros recursos financieros para ayudar y no para
oprimir a los demás. Éstos son sólo unos pocos ejemplos. La ley no
puede cubrirlo todo. Sólo el amor puede enseñarnos lo que debemos
hacer. Sólo el amor.
¿Es Día de Todos los Santos un Día de Precepto?

En los Estados Unidos y otros países, los obispos han recibido permiso del Vaticano para abrogar (temporalmente suspender) a la
obligación de los Católicos a asistir a Misa en ciertas fiestas de precepto, cuando esos días santos caen en sábado o lunes. Debido a esto,
algunos Católicos se han confundido acerca de si ciertos días santos son, de hecho, fiestas de guardar. Día de Todos los Santos es un día
de precepto. Sin embargo, debido a que cae en sábado este año, la obligación de asistir a Misa se abroga.

Aunque no estamos obligados, al
asistir a la celebración de Todos los Santos es una maravillosa manera de honrar a los santos, que constantemente interceden ante Dios
por nosotros.

Sobres de Recordacion
Los sobres en memoria del dia de los fieles difuntos ya estan
disponibles en los vestibulos de la iglesia. Por favor regrese su
sobre con su donación en la canasta de la colecta dominical
o al Centro Parroquial. Los sobres serán puestos en el altar y
los nombres inscritos en ellos serán recordados en todas las
Misas durante el mes de noviembre.

Tendremos altares especiales junto a las estatuas de Santa
Ana y San Jose para recordar a nuestros fieles difuntos. Los

Coronation Postponed
Our Parish Pageant will be Extended
Due to the many events and projects that will be taking
place here at our parish in the next few months we have
decided to extend our Parish Pageant until the Spring of
2015. Please stay tuned for the new date of our coronation gala. Our pageant candidates will continue selling

Homecoming
The Valiants took on Mary Star of the Sea in their Homecoming game on Saturday, October 18th. St. Genevieve
came ready to play posting a quick 14 points on the board to begin the game with big runs from Matthew Cecil and
Zellie Henderson; Both who combined for over 250 yards of offense on the ground. Miguel Garcia quarterbacked
the Valiants to a strong second half completing 12 of 13 passes for 152 yards and 3 touchdowns. Terrell Stanley caught
a 27 yard touchdown to cap off an impressive 47-12 victory leaving the Valiants with a 3-3 record on the year and a 1-1
record in conference play. Congratulations Valiants!

Remote Caller Bingo Starting November 4th
Tuesday Evenings Beginning on November 4th
Bingo has been around for many decades, and has been a significant
fundraiser for many Catholic parishes and schools in Los Angeles.
The California legislature recently approved a new form of Bingo
for the sole use of charitable organizations. We believe this new
form of Bingo will greatly improve the value of this game to the
continued existence of our Catholic schools and parishes in Los
Angeles. We need your enthusiastic support!
What is REMOTE CALLER BINGO? It’s a new way of playing
bingo that electronically links separate bingo halls together so that
a combined group of players, spread throughout California, play
the same game displayed on large flatscreen televisions in each
bingo hall. The game is televised via the Internet from a local
studio. Whereas each bingo hall may have only 20 players, 100
connected bingo halls will have 2,000 players all playing the same
game simultaneously. The jackpot for each of the 24 games play on
Tuesday is determined by the total number of players and their total
number of buy-in purchases. Thirty-seven percent (37%) of every
dollar goes into the jackpot, potentially forming a jackpot in the
thousands of dollars – per game!!!
Every Tuesday night there are multiple chances to win $1,199 in
PowerBall prizes. And to start things off, we will sweeten the pot
for regular game winners on our site.

Necesitamos Voluntarios/as
Estamos en busca de voluntarios/as (de 16 años en adelante) que esten disponibles durante la Misa de 2:00
p.m. para ayudarnos con el proyector. El proyector se ha convertido en una herramienta esencial para
mostrar la letra de los cantos de la Misa. Los voluntarios/as deben de saber usar el programa “powerpoint”;
esta asignación es muy fácil y solo tomaría 5 minutos de entrenamiento. Esperamos tener 4 - 5 voluntarios
para rotarlos cada semana. Esta tambien es una gran forma de recibir horas de servicio comunitario para las

Juego "Homecoming"
Nuestros jugadores ganaron a la Escuela Maria, Estrella del Mar en el juego "Homecoming" el pasado sabado, 18 de
octubre. Santa Genoveva llegó lista para jugar, ganando 14 puntos al comenzar el juego con grandes tiradas de Mateo
Cecil y Zellie Henderson; juntos combinaron más de 250 yardas de ofensiva en el terreno. Miguel García tuvo una
segunda mitad fuerte al completar 12 de 13 pases para 152 yardas y 3 touchdowns. Terrell Stanley atrapó un touchdown de
27 yardas para coronar una impresionante victoria 47-12 dejando a nuestra escuela con un récord de 3-3 en el año y un
récord de 1-1 en el juego de la conferencia. ¡Muchas felicidades!

Bingo ha existido por muchas décadas, y ha sido un recaudador de
fondos importante para muchas parroquias católicas y escuelas en
Los Angeles. La legislatura de California aprobó recientemente una
nueva forma de Bingo para el uso exclusivo de las organizaciones
caritativas. Creemos que esta nueva forma de Bingo mejorará el
valor de este juego para la existencia continua de nuestras escuelas
católicas y parroquias en Los Angeles. ¡Necesitamos su apoyo!
¿Qué es BINGO REMOTO? Es una nueva forma de jugar bingo
que enlaza electrónicamente salas de bingo separados para que un
grupo combinado de jugadores, repartidos a lo largo de California,
juegen el mismo juego que aparecera en los televisores de cada
sala de bingo. El juego es televisado a través de Internet desde un
estudio local. Considerando que cada sala de bingo puede tener sólo
20 jugadores al conectar 100 salas de bingo habrán 2,000 jugadores

Church’s Parking Lot. Vehicles will be towed at owner’s expense.
When parking throughout the neighborhood, please be sure to not
block any sidewalks or driveways.
