he Mission of the Richard M. Keane Foundation
is to support, sustain, and develop programs
for the community that will offer sports, fitness,
educational and recreational programs.
The Keane Foundation has been blessed with the support of the community in all of our fundraising efforts, and
with assistance of the Town of Wethersfield and the State
of Connecticut as well. As we go into our 14th year, instead
of reinventing the wheel and developing new programs in
isolation, we have chosen to include the programs of other
organizations in our efforts.
The Running Clubs in the 5 Elementary Schools this
Spring was a wonderful example of this type of partnership.....working with the Schools, the Town, and with the
Central CT Health District, 140 children learned about the
lifelong sport of running.
Another recent recipient was the Wethersfield Early Childhood Collaborative (WEC) in providing materials on
summer reading to families for whom English is a Second
Language (ESL).
With a small amount of money to support other organizations whose Mission Statement mirrors ours and are not redundant, we will solicit applications from those organizations
this spring (deadline is March 31, 2015). Organizations with
eligible goals and who have a program that needs support
should visit our website at keanefoundation.org, or contact a
Keane Foundation Board Member for more information.

W
for great weather! The UNICO/Keane Foundation
Golf Tournament had happy golfers at Wethersfield
Country Club; the 5K in June sponsored by Stop
and Shop had record numbers thanks to Running
Club participants; and the fabulous Cove Side Carnival was a hit with everyone.
Special thanks to those who serve on the Richard M. Keane Foundation Board of Directors. Many
are charter members, but others have been with us
for many years. Current board members include:
Howard Greenblatt, Mia Caulfield, John Curran, Mark
Wallace, Barbara Bellas, Tom Dolan, Tim Keane, Ted
Pinto, Mark Trahan, Leslie Esoian, Mike Patkoske,
Paul Gregorio, John Gallivan and Nick D’Eramo.
New Board Members are always welcome!
Almost 100% of our funds go directly back to the
community, in programs, facility improvements and
partnerships and collaborations in town. Consider a
Keane Foundation directed contribution for your United Way Donation this year, and keep your dollars in
Wethersfield! A designation or redesignation may be
made at any time, contact your HR department.
We look forward to another busy year of
programs. Visit our website www.

Facebook for more information.

ack by popular demand, the 2nd Annual Keane
Foundation Running Club will return to all 5
Wethersfield Elementary Schools for children in
Grades 3-6 starting the week of April 27. The program
teaches children how to develop their endurance, set
goals, and promote self-esteem. Last year children of all
running abilities progressed from their current level to completing
a 5K (3.1 miles).
This wonderful program was a complete
‘hit’ in 2014. With Running Club participants
and their friends and
families, there were over
650 registered runners in this year’s 5K...a new record!
Almost 200 children were registered active Running Club
members in the Keane Foundation 5K.
A large number of Running Club Members also successfully competed in fall 2014 at the Mikey’s Place 5 K on
October 18th.

A Message from the Keane Foundation President
hat a year 2014 was for the for the
Richard M. Keane Foundation! Our newest program developed by Board Member
Barbara Bellas was a phenomenal hit! Children at
all 5 Elementary Schools learned they could run a
5K and enjoy every step. Running was Dick
Keane’s passion, so it is very appropriate that his
Foundation launch a few more runners in town!
The participants ran in record numbers at the
Keane Foundation 5K in June and again in Mikey’s
Place 5K in October. Such fun!
After School programs on Monday and Tuesdays are almost full, and Saturday Free Open Basketball hosts kids and families on weekends. Our
Kids Vacation Days are as popular as ever, with
activities for every child.
This year the Keane Foundation began supporting other worthy organizations in Wethersfield,
whose mission mirrors ours. Some of those are
the Wethersfield Early Childhood Collaborative,
the Wethersfield School and Parent Organization,
Wethersfield Senior Chair Yoga, Wethersfield High
School Literary Magazine “Pieces,” and the Wethersfield Creative Arts Council. We hope to continue to
support other programs who have leadership willing
to make a difference in sports, fitness, educational
and recreational programs for our community.
Thank you to all who made our fundraisers
successful again this year, and thank goodness
