wine-centric restaurant occupies the former
“boiler house” which powered the adjacent
brewery. The menu focuses on grilled items
from local farms and markets, with a focus
on “Texas ranch-style” cuisine. In a nod to
the historical significance of the location, many
of the building’s original architectural features
have been preserved and incorporated into the
design of the restaurant, including two of the
three enormous boilers which powered the
brewery more than 100 years ago.

Guests will be driven to the McNay Art
Museum where they will receive a guided tour.
Atlee and Robert Ayres were commissioned to
design a 24-room Spanish Colonial Revival
house which became the core of the McNay
Art Museum. At her death in 1950, Marion
McNay left more than 700 works of art, along
with her house, surrounding 23 acres, and an
endowment to establish the first museum of
modern art in Texas. Since Marion McNay’s
bequest in 1950, the collection has expanded to
nearly 20,000 works including: Medieval and
Renaissance art, 19th- through 21st-century
European and American paintings, sculptures
and photographs, one of the finest collections
of prints and drawings in the Southwest, the
exceptional Tobin Collection of Theatre Arts,
Jeanne and Irving Mathews Collection of Art
Glass, and Art of New Mexico.

p.m. and will return to the hotel at 3:00 p.m.

Featured Book: Getting Life: An Innocent
Man’s 25-Year Journey from Prison to Peace
by Michael Morton
Michael Morton is an American who was
wrongfully convicted in 1987 in a Williamson
County, Texas court of the 1986 murder of
his wife Christine Morton. He spent nearly
25 years in prison before he was exonerated
by DNA evidence which supported his claim
of innocence and pointed to the crime being
committed by another individual. Morton was
released from prison on October 4, 2011; the
prosecutor was convicted of contempt of court
for withholding evidence after the judge had
ordered its release to the defense.

Known as the “Queen of the Missions”, this is
the largest of the missions and was almost fully
restored to its original design in the 1930s by
the Works Projects Administration. Spanish
missions were not churches, but communities,
with the church the focus. Mission San José
shows the visitor how all the missions might
have looked over 250 years ago. You will be
transported to Mission San José where you will
enjoy hors d’oeuvres from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15
p.m. and entertained by local mariachi and folkloric dance for a complete spirit of San Antonio
experience. Then you will be treated to an
exquisite dinner from 6:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
in the Granary, an historic structure of the
Mission completed ca. 1755.

Today’s events will begin with a tour of the San
Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA). Once there,
you will be guided on a cultural tour of notable
Texas and regional art. The SAMA is also
located in the historic Lone Star Brewery
complex. At its outset, the Museum of Art
emphasized the art of the Americas including preColumbian, Spanish Colonial, and Latin American folk art. Included as well were eighteenth,
nineteenth, and twentieth century American and
European paintings, photograph, sculpture, and
decorative arts. In 1985, the Museum received
the unparalleled collections of Latin American
Folk Art formed by former Vice President Nelson
A. Rockefeller and Robert K. Winn, establishing
it at the forefront of American institutions collecting in this area. Today, the Museum houses
the largest and most comprehensive collection of
ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman, as well as
Asian art in the southern United States.
