Airman and Family Readiness Center
On the Move with Military School-Age Children
The spring and summer months are fast
approaching and that means it is time for military
relocations. For those families with school-age
children, a military move requires some research to
get everyone ready for the change. If your family is
preparing for another PCS move or a child’s move
to college, the School Liaison Officer can provide a
variety of resources to ease the transition.
Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC)
has tools available to support military families’
educational needs. MCEC is a non-profit organization
that advocates for “inclusive, quality educational
opportunities for all military-connected children.”
MCEC offers programs, trainings, and resources
all geared toward military-connected children.
SchoolQuest.org is an educational resource tool
provided by MCEC and is available to facilitate your
search for new schools and much more.
Resources available through SchoolQuest.org:
• Find and compare schools
• Locate information on state school
requirements for all 50 states
• Learn more about ages and stages – Is your
child ready for the next education milestone?
• Transition to college with the College Prep
Toolbox
- Plan your high school path
- ACT and SAT test prep
- Find colleges
- Scholarship finder
- Understanding financial aid
To learn more about MCEC, please visit www.
militarychild.org or visit www.schoolquest.org.
The second semester of school can bring
challenges for some students. They could be
preparing for grade level tests or trying to master
a new subject. Maybe their family moved over
the holiday season and now they are feeling
disconnected from their school work. Tutor.com for
U.S. Military Families provides one-on-one online
tutoring and homework help for all children in grades
K-12. Tutoring is available at no cost to eligible
students in National Guard, Reserve, and Active
Duty military families (please see website for service
specific details). Tutor.com includes over 16 subjects
including test prep, proofreading papers, Math,
Science, English, and Social Studies. Expert tutors are
on-demand 24/7 and students can connect from
Education Services
any internet-enabled device. This amazing resource
is made possible by the Department of Defense
MWR Library Program, Yellow Ribbon Reintegration
Program, and Navy General Library Program.
To learn more about Tutor.com for U.S. Military
Families, please visit www.tutor.com/military.
