Jazz pants and crop tops etc can be worn to the jazz and tap classes – as long as it is black and white.
We encourage good grooming in all of our classes and request hair should be neat and tidy. Long hair must be tied up at all times and in a bun for Ballet
classes.
Correct shoes are required for all classes and we request that students do not begin wearing the Jazz shoes until they are at least the Junior Jazz level.
Ballet pumps are recommended to wear to class prior to this level. The studio recommends “capezio” taps on all tap shoes. Jazz & Tap shoes camel colour
All students in beginner and Junior acrobat classes have bare feet for class, intermediate and advanced classes are to have jazz shoes/acro shoes with acro
grips on the bottom.
No Bloch Sneakers are permitted to be worn to any class with the exception of the Senior Class.

CLASSES OFFERED AT GAIL MEADE PAC
JAZZ
The style of jazz is so diverse, we work to capture the many avenues this wonderful form of dance offers. Jazz classes start
with a warm up and stretch, move onto progressions of technique including kicks, leaps and turns and finish with a routine.
Students wishing to partake in examinations in this style are taught the CSTD Modern Jazz Syllabus which is currently
examinable around the world. We also cater for those wanting to dance for the fun and exercise. Classes are offered from
beginner to professional level.
EXAM (TECHNIQUE) TAP CLASSES
Learn this unique and popular style of dance by experienced tapping technicians. Whether you are a beginner or looking to
further enhance your tapping technique, these classes will provide tuition to suit students of all levels. From Street Tap to
the sophisticated “Fred Astaire” style, students are guided through all rhythms and genres and can further their tuition by
partaking in the CSTD tapping examinations and competitions.
CLASSICAL BALLET
Classical classes are offered from Pre-Primary level (approximately 4yr olds) to Advanced Level, Classical is a disciplined class
helping with posture, strength, flexibility, control, grace an becoming a more polished dancer and is an important grounding
for all styles of dance. Classical ballet can be done once a week for enjoyment or taken more seriously with the intentions of
exams/competition work. We follow two streams of Classical Ballet. The RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) and CSTD (The
Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing).
Pointe work begins in Grade 5 RAD Level and is an extension of all Major Ballet classes. Two ballet classes a week are
required in Grade 5 before beginning pointe work. Pointe work requires a lot of strength in the feet, ankles, legs and body
but when done correctly is beautiful to watch and rewarding to do.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz,
lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to use an alternative style through fluid dance movements.
Our classes include beginner contemporary technique as an introduction for our younger students. The more advanced
students have the option of completing the Jason Winters examination syllabus in contemporary dance as well as
choreography for stage competitions.
ACROBATS
Acrobat classes are offered for all ages from 3 years old to advanced level.
Beginner classes start with stretching, strengthening, cartwheels; bend backs, somersaults etc. and work up to flipping, aerial
work and balances in advanced classes. Students are individually assisted with tricks on mat by experienced teachers.
Classes are based on ability level and students have the opportunity to move up levels throughout the year once new tricks
have been mastered.
MUSICAL THEATRE
Musical Theatre classes are designed to give students an understanding and knowledge of music and theatre. These classes
cover warm up, scales, breathing techniques, musicality, and actions interpreting music, theatre games and song work.
Through theatre games the students will develop their singing, acting and performance skills. This is a fun class for children
that may have no dance experience but love to sing and dance.
SINGING LESSONS
We also have singing lessons available for students who would like private tuition with a fully qualified singing instructor.
TWINKLE TOES CLASSES (For Pre-School Students)
We offer our Twinkle Toes classes to students from 2 to 5 years old. This class is available 3 times a week, Wednesday,
Friday and Saturday.
Twinkle Toes is an introductory class to all types of dance teaching the children basics in Jazz, ballet and tap in a fun
atmosphere. It is great for their coordination and confidence and prepares a good foundation if they wish to continue with
their dancing.
Hip Hop Classes
Hip Hop Classes are offered in Terms 3 & 4.

COMPETITIONS 2015
We are starting to make plans for 2015 so would like to inform all parents and students of how the competition
stream will run at GMPAC.
The studio will participate in solo and troupe sections in the CSTD July comps.
There will be other comps throughout the year where students are welcome to enter solos, duos etc however
these would be entered with the understanding that teachers would not be present and props are individual
responsibility.
GMPAC students may wish to enter competitions in: April school holidays
 Long weekend in June
 July school holidays (Only comp where troupes will be entered)
 October school holidays
As our goal is to get all routines ready for July competitions, limited run throughs will be available before April
comps. NO new routines are promised for April and choreography of new routines will take priority to run
throughs.
In 2015 anyone wishing to do a solo/duo or trio in competitions will pay a fee for choreography and music. This
fee will be paid on Competition Registration day Tuesday 18 November 5.00pm – 7.00pm. As teachers put hours
and hours of preparation into music editing and choreography the fee will cover some of this time as well as pay
for 2 copies of the music.
9 & Under routines (per routine) - $30
12 & Under routines – (per routine) $40
14 & Under routines – (per routine) $50
16 & Under & Open Age routines – (per routine) $50
Registration day for competition solos is where teachers will be available to discuss any requests you have for
entries. With the fee per solo being introduced we are hoping students/parents alike will think carefully about
what sections to enter. Teachers will then have the opportunity to guide students into a more appropriate genre
for them, discuss preferences etc. We would also like to avoid routines being taught then not used. Some students
taking on too much for the year trying to balance exam work and comps so it is important to consider the
workload ahead. We would also like to nurture the idea of performing 1 or 2 solos well and with confidence than
6 or 7 not so well.
Keeping routines for 2 years is a guide but many routines can be kept for longer than this if teachers feel standard
is appropriate. Those solos/duos registered on Registration Day will be given priority and be done first. There will
be another registration day scheduled early in 2015, for those who need more time to think. Private lesson charge
will remain at $25 per half hour and most routines will be taught in 2-3 lessons. It is then up to the individual on
how often private lessons are booked for polishing up routines.
