POSITION PURPOSE
The Publicity Manager is responsible for developing and delivering phenomenal publicity that furthers
Queensland Ballet’s brand and promotes our performances, training and community programs,
corporate partnerships, and other events and activities.
Responsibilities include all aspects of media management including liaising with the media;
generating publicity opportunities; writing and distributing media materials; arranging interviews, photo
shoots and media calls; issues management and media training. In addition, this role also involves
developing and producing multi-media content – photographic and video – to help tell the Company’s
diverse stories and leverage media opportunities.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This reports to the Marketing and Audience Development Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and maintain a media relations strategy which supports the marketing goals and
Queensland Ballet’s vision.

Generate media coverage to promote stories across Queensland Ballet including the
Company’s performance seasons, training and educational programs, community events, and
partnerships.

Manage all areas of media liaison including proactively generating publicity, responding to all
media enquiries; coordinating media invitations and dispatching material in response to media
requests
·
Develop strong and positive working relationships with local, interstate, trade and international
media as well as key internal stakeholders, photographers, design and film agencies, and
Government.

Write, produce and distribute media materials including event alerts, press releases and
media kits
·

Schedule and organise media calls, interviews, shoots and events
·
Develop and produce multi-media content that help tell Queensland Ballet’s diverse stories for
use on various platforms and distribution to media
·
Coordinate the production and distribution of performance photography and footage while
abiding by copyright and licensing agreements
Thoroughly brief and prepare QB employees before all media calls, interviews, shoots and
events

Analyse and evaluate media campaigns, and compile and distribute media reports and
clippings
·
Provide support and strategic media advice to the CEO and Marketing and Audience
Development Director in regards to crisis and issue management

Maintain the internal media policies
·
Coach and train senior staff, dancers and other personnel for media appearances and
interviews

Adhere to budget and deadline requirements.
Maintain photographic and film archive
Work on several campaigns at once, sometimes under pressure and often to tight deadlines.
Supervise VIP ticket collection at performances and marketing events.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Tertiary qualifications in a public relations or marketing discipline
2. Minimum five years practical experience in public relations
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
4. Extensive and strong media relationships
5. An ability to identify, develop and pitch creative media angles
6. Effective negotiation skills
7. Proven ability to prioritise, problem solve and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
DESIRABLE
Familiarity with the arts industry is desirable but not essential.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Recreation Leave 20 working days per year. Accrued leave may be taken with the agreement of the
Chief Executive Officer at any time of the year, subject to the demands of the position.
Personal/Carer’s Leave Ten working days per year.
Probationary Period Three months from commencement.
Hours of Work Office hours are nominally 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday, but the appointee
is regularly required to be available to work at performances and functions after hours and on
weekends. Provision is made for accrual of time in lieu, at the discretion of the Chief Executive
Officer.
Salary Salary will be negotiated with preferred candidate. Superannuation is paid into the
superannuation fund of your choice, currently at the rate of 9.5%.
