here - Germantown Community Scholarship Fund

Welcome
Dear Friends of the Germantown Community Scholarship Fund,
On behalf of the Board of Directors and numerous Germantown Community Scholarship Fund (GCSF) committee
volunteers, thank you for joining us to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the GCSF Annual Dinner & Auction. We hope
you will find the fun in fundraising! The founders of the organization believed that an investment in our youth is an
investment in the future of our community. Their energy and passion for helping our youth succeed thrives today in
the hearts of the Board of Directors serving GCSF.
We are very grateful for the local community sponsors who support this evening’s event. Even before the doors open,
their generous contributions have helped to make preparations for this event possible. BMO Harris Bank, 2014–15
Premier Corporate Sponsor, contributes financially, as well as through the time and talents of its employees. Ongoing
support at the Platinum level are WaterStone Bank and Gehl Foods. Malkin’s Flooring continues to assist at the Silver
Sponsor level and Daub Orthodontics contributes to the Student Showcase, financially supporting the many
hand-crafted creations made by Germantown High School Tech. Ed. and Art students. As in previous years, we are
pleased to have Amy’s Gourmet Apples support the 2015 Anniversary Dinner & Auction.
We are certain you will find the enthusiasm shared by Jodi Becker, WTMJ 620 Newsradio personality and GCSF
scholarship recipient, contagious and entertaining. We are honored and grateful for Jodi’s involvement for the third
year in a row. We extend our heart-felt gratitude to Ron Bast. While you know him today as verbal auctioneer, he
served as GCSF President and Auctioneer 30 years ago for the first Dinner & Auction, and has offered continuous
support in the years between!
Since 1981, GCSF has awarded over $2.1 million in scholarships to 2,180 college-bound high school graduates. The first
Dinner & Auction was held at Etzel’s County Inn, and raised less than $10,000. Last year’s event raised over $60,000,
helping fund 83 scholarship awards for the Class of 2014. Your attendance, spirited bidding and lively interaction make
this a very special event for the Germantown community that lends assistance to our youth who are pursuing their
post-high school dreams.
Because of you, we are still going strong 30 years later. Our work is not finished! There are more students yet to
graduate. Many more post-high school dreams to help fund and a long standing Germantown tradition to uphold!
Bid high…..Bid often
With sincere gratitude,
Deb Stresing
Deb Stresing, President

Endowment Campaign
Building Toward A Million
In 2006, the Germantown Community Scholarship Fund (GCSF) honored the 25th Anniversary of its founding by
embarking on a journey to grow its endowment fund to $1 million. Tonight, we hope to raise $3,000 toward our
ongoing goal. Just thirty Anniversary gifts of $100 will help us we reach our goal.
A contribution to GCSF’s Endowment Campaign is an investment in the future of Germantown youth. Help us
continue on our journey toward building a $1 million dollar endowment fund with tonight’s special opportunity to
donate before the Verbal Auction.
Complete the Endowment Pledge Card found in the basket on your table. Raise your Pledge Card to alert a GCSF
Board Member to collect your pledge. Endowment Fund contributions will be charged to your Express Checkout
invoice or can be paid by a check payable to: Germantown Community Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the generosity of
local organizations‚ community and corporate friends, our Endowment Fund balance is nearing $1 million. Since 1981,
GCSF has awarded over $2.1 million in scholarships to 2,180 Germantown area students pursuing their education
at a college, university or vocational/technical school. As a non-profit organization, the GCSF relies on charitable
contributions to fulfill its mission.
Obtain a Matching Gift from your employer!
Many corporations will match the gifts made to a qualified non-profit organization by their employees and retirees.
Companies usually match the tax-deductible portion of an employee’s gift, which means that your contributions to
the Germantown Community Scholarship Fund could qualify.
Stop in at your employer’s Human Resources department for further information.
Your completed Matching Gift Form can be mailed to:

The Germantown Community Scholarship Fund is pleased to announce the scholarship process for 2015.
Since the organization’s inception in 1981, more than $2.1 million have been awarded in scholarships. Annually we receive over 100 applications from graduating seniors throughout the Germantown area.
We use a computer based application process that provides the following:
• Better method for tracking the completion of applications

• Simplification of the teacher recommendation process
• Efficient method for recording student application data for use in scoring and award notification
Anyone receiving a full-tuition, room and board scholarship is not eligible to receive a scholarship from the
Germantown Community Scholarship Fund, Inc., including and without limitation, any of the following:
• Chick Evans Scholarship
• College or University Academic Scholarship
• College or University Athletics Scholarship (NCAA or NAIA based)
• U.S. Military Academies (Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy)

Germantown Community Scholarship Fund
History: 1981–2015
The Germantown Community Scholarship Fund, Inc. is a charitable organization under Section 501 (c)(3) of the
Internal Revenue Code and was formed in 1981 to help local students continue their education at a college, university,
or vocational / technical school. The Germantown Rotary Club donated $10,000 to the trust fund. The first dinner
auction was held in 1986. A $200,000 donation in 1990 from the Germantown Volunteer Fire Company greatly
increased the trust fund. The organization has awarded over $2.1 million in scholarships to 2,180 students.
Scholarships are funded with donations from businesses, service organizations and individuals, and from proceeds
of our Dinner Auctions and Endowment Fund.
The GCSF board has been involved in many fund raisers through the years. Our most successful event is the
Dinner & Auction which is held annually on the first Thursday in February. The culmination of the organization’s
efforts is the presentation of scholarships at the Senior Scholarship Awards Night held in May at Germantown High
School. Application forms are made available on the GCSF website (www.germantownscholarship.org) in February and
must be completed in March.
