VALENTINES FOR VETS CAMPAIGN
Our 3rd and 4th grade students are participating in the Valentine’s for Vets program with
Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen. They are sending greetings to wounded military veterans for
Valentine’s Day. These messages from students lift the spirits of many of our veterans confined to
a hospital on Valentine's Day.
Congressman Frelinghuysen will be delivering the handmade Valentines from HTS students to our two New Jersey
Veterans Administration hospitals.
Thank you to our students for their thoughtful participation to help show our veterans that they have not been
forgotten.
SECOND GRADE STORYTELLING RESIDENCY
Last week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday both second grade classes had an oral storytelling
residency of folktales and fairy tales courtesy of the Harding Township Educational Foundation. A
professional storyteller from the Morris Arts Plus spent time in both of the second grade classrooms on
those days teaching the students about the wonderful art of oral storytelling. During our Language Arts
blocks on those days the students participated in hands-on and engaging activities that helped them
explore and discuss characters and story elements from folk tales and fairy tales. The residency also
provided the students with ideas and opportunities for their own in class writing.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, February 19 and Friday, February 20, 2015.* There will be a
12:45 p.m. dismissal on both of these days. Pre-K to grade 5 conferences will begin at 1:15 pm with the last conference
scheduled at 4:00 pm. Elementary Teachers will send conference notices home next week. 6 - 8th grade conferences will
be a “round robin" format. Middle School teachers will be available to meet individually with parents in an arena-style
setting in the gym. If you have children in both elementary and middle school, please attend middle school conferences
on the same day as elementary siblings are scheduled. Grade 5 conferences will be held in the gym along with the
middle school conferences.
