Dear Parents/Guardians,
WELCOME!
Did you go to camp when you were a child? Do you remember that first night – the smell of
s’mores by the fire, sleeping without a nightlight, and seeing the stars shining brightly overhead?
The camp experience is unique, and we can’t wait to share it with your daughter! She’ll meet new
people, learn unique skills, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
For many girls, camp is the first time away from home and their family. It’s the ultimate characterbuilding experience – a safe place for your daughter to learn responsibility, and be empowered
to take care of herself. Under the guidance of caring, trained adults, she’ll learn independence
by waking up on her own, making her bed, attending activities on time, and keeping track of her
belongings – things some girls have never done before.
Our activities were developed by girls and include topics that they care about and want to
participate in. With the help of our hardworking staff and team of volunteers, our program is
specifically molded to each individual age and grade level. Whether it’s swimming, hiking, acting,
or archery, we have a menu of activities to create wonderful memories in a caring and supportive
community.
Every girl deserves a chance to camp. Camperships are available to ensure girls needing financial
assistance can participate.
Whether she attends for a day, a week, or longer, Girl Scout camp will give your daughter an
opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun. We’ll teach her how to be courageous, confident,
and full of character, while making the world a better place. Whichever opportunity she chooses,
we’re confident she will have a magical summer adventure—and that you’ll be amazed at all she’s
learned.

GENERAL INFORMATION
SENDING YOUR CHILD TO CAMP
Camp has something for everyone! Our camps offer a wide variety of opportunities so you and your child can
find the perfect camp experience! While your child is at camp she will make new friends, try new things, learn
independence, and so much more with the guidance and supervision of a caring staff. Summer camp is a place
where great memories are made and kept. We pride ourselves on giving your child a unique experience for her
to live and grow. While girls are having fun at camp, we are sure to keep the Girl Scout Mission, Promise, Law, and
goals in mind at all times.
GIRL SCOUT GOALS
Through Girl Scout summer camp girls will participate in activities that help them achieve goals which are:
• Girls will understand themselves and their values.
• Girls will use their knowledge and skills to explore the world.
• Girls will care about, inspire, and team with others locally and globally.
• Girls will act to make the world a better place.
EQUAL ACCESS
No one shall be denied admission to our camp(s) or to the benefit of our U.S. Department of Agriculture Child
Nutrition program(s) because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, handicap or age, providing specific
program requirements are met.
GIRLS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
We seek to provide an inclusive environment. Campers requiring special accommodations, meals, equipment
or staffing should notify the regional Girl Scout Center in writing and send complete information with her
registration(s). All information will be kept confidential and shared only with the camp director and the
appropriate staff. Campers should be self-sufficient and able to dress, eat and shower on their own.
BUDDIES
If your camper has a special buddy who is in the same grade level with whom she
wants to share her camp experience, please follow these guidelines to assure
placement of your camper and her buddy together:
• Buddy pairs are placed when two girls request each other on their
registration. Please limit requests to one buddy.
• Buddies must sign up for the same camp program.
Remember that buddies are not a requirement. Many campers come to
camp without a buddy and make new friends quickly.
55
TRANSPORTATION
Parents are responsible for transporting their children to and from all camps except for Camp Butterworth Day
Camp where busing is available (see pg 22). Carpooling is encouraged. A photo ID is required to pick up a child
from camp.
For out-of-camp trips requiring transportation, campers are driven in council-owned or leased vehicles by
staff members who are at least 21 years old and who have completed special transportation training and motor
vehicle background checks. Seat belts are worn at all times.
HEALTH CARE
In a conscious effort to provide a safe and healthy environment for all campers, we require campers to provide
the following:
• Resident Camp - A physical exam completed within 12 months of the camper’s stay at camp is necessary
for campers, including adult volunteers, who attend resident camp. Health exam forms must be signed
by a licensed physician. If a girl arrives at camp without a signed health examination form she will be sent
home. Please don’t forget this vital requirement!
• Special Summer Events, Troop Adventure Camp and Day Camp - A health history must be provided
that is current within six months, unless otherwise specified.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Privacy Act of 2001 protects all personal and medical information. The disclosure of confidential
information is only available to health personnel. It is the camper’s responsibility to provide this information for
each session they attend as forms are not transferred to another camping session and are not available from
previous years. We encourage you to make copies of each form before you bring them to camp. All camps have
staff members who are First Aid and CPR certified.
CAMP KAPERS
Kapers are chores girls share while attending camp. Each staff member will model and teach campers proper
ways to care for the environment and their camp surroundings. Each unit is responsible for the upkeep and
cleaning of their area, and for additional daily camp responsibilities. This may include cleaning the dining hall,
latrines, bathhouse, the grounds and other areas. Girls are closely monitored to make sure that established
health and safety procedures are used in completing cleaning tasks.
CAMP FEES
We work hard to offer summer camp opportunities at the lowest possible rates. We have been able to maintain
fundraising efforts and minimize expenses in an effort to offer camp opportunities to girls at about half the
actual cost.
Girl Scout members: eBiz online summer camp registration is the best option for registering for camp and is
available for both current members and those girls who wish to become members. Online registration opens at
midnight and offers first-come first-served, real-time registration with no paperwork delays!
Non-Girl Scout members: Our camps are open to ALL girls! You don’t have to have been in a troop to go to Girl
Scout camp. You can join Girl Scouts now by registering on-line, then sign up for camp fun! Going to camp is a
great way to be a Girl Scout.
ACA ACCREDITATION
66
The American Camp Association (ACA) is an independent national agency which imposes the highest standards
of health, safety, program and staffing for camps across the country. Camps are periodically visited and must
maintain high marks to display the ACA logo. We are proud that all council-owned properties providing summer
opportunities by paid staff are accredited and meet or exceed ACA standards.
STAFFING
In our commitment to ensure the safety of all campers, we strive to meet or exceed all established safety
standards for staffing. We maintain a staff to camper ratio of two adults to every: • 10 girls entering 1st grade
• 12 girls entering 2nd through 3rd grade
• 16 girls entering 4th through 5th grade
• 20 girls entering 6th grade and above
All staff members are carefully screened to find the best and most qualified candidates to promote a safe,
positive, nurturing camp environment. Each candidate submits an application and three references, and goes
through an interview and a state and/or national criminal background check according to the National Child
Protection Act of 1993. Minimum requirements of staff positions include:
• Supervisory staff – 21 years old or older with supervisory experience
• Camp counselors and specialty staff – 18 years old or older
• Volunteer staff – 18 years old or older
INTERNATIONAL STAFF
Some campers’ experiences are enhanced through interaction with the talented and experienced staff that will
be joining us from other countries. International staff are selected from applications provided by an international
staffing agency and go through a screening process including background certification checks that are similar to
the process used for U.S. staff.
MALE STAFF
TRAINING
All staff participates in an intensive, mandatory training designed to prepare the staff to create a positive,
harmonious and supportive camp environment based on information by the camping industry’s leading experts.
During this period, staff learn about child development, the Girl Scout program, camp skills, group dynamics,
safety procedures and regulations. Supervisory staff participates in additional training.
CONFIRMATIONS
In order to have your camper ready for camp, you need to know what to pack, when to arrive, what
forms to fill out and more. Once registered, you will have access to confirmation information to help
prepare your camper for her awesome summer experience. Confirmation information is available

GENERAL INFORMATION
Male staff members (paid and volunteer) are a valued part of all aspects of Girl Scouting, including Girl Scout
camping. Additional guidelines are followed when men are present in order to ensure the privacy of the girls, as well
as the male staff members. In all situations, safety standards for involving men in Girl Scout activities are followed.

TROOP ADVENTURE CAMP
CAMP STONYBROOK - WAYNESVILLE, OHIO
CAMP LIBBEY - DEFIANCE, OHIO
Do you love camping with your troop? If so, Troop Adventure Camp (TAC) is perfect for you! Your troop along with
your troop leader will plan your own camp experience and activities, so the challenge and adventure is just right
for you. Led by camp staff and Junior Instructors or Counselors-in-Training (CITs), the activities are always fun and
exciting.
Enjoy making crafts, hiking, swimming, creeking, outdoor living skills, building teamwork at our low challenge course
(entering fourth grade and above), or working on badge or Girl Scout Journey activities. You’ll also participate in
themed meals and all camp activities that representatives from your troop get to vote on while at camp (camper
council). Adults needed for ratio attend free of charge. Adults may rotate their time at camp as long unit ratio is
maintained at all times. There’s never a dull moment at TAC!
28
PLANNING YOUR ADVENTURE
TAC gives girls the opportunity to plan their camp
adventure with the help of their leaders. It is important
that the girls and adults work together during the
planning process.
ACCOMMODATIONS AND MEALS
There are two types of sleeping accommodations
available:
Cabins: Sleep in a dormitory style building, which
includes a common living area, kitchen, fire ring and
bathroom. Leaders stay in the cabins, but are not
permitted to sleep in the same room as the girls.
Girl Scout Brownies have priority for cabins space,
but are placed in tents once cabins are filled. Older
girl troops may be placed in cabins only after all Girl
Scout Brownie troops are placed.
Platform Tent Units: Sleep in a unit of large canvas
tents on wooden platforms. Each tent includes
four cots and mattresses within easy access to the
kitchen shelter and fire ring. Leaders stay in the unit,
but in their own tent separate from the girls.
Meals are served family style in the dining hall. Troops
have the option to request cooking out over the fire.
All TAC participants (both girls and adults) must
provide a current health history (within six months of
dates of attendance). A physical exam is not required
to be completed by a doctor.
TROOP LEADER ORIENTATION
Leaders are not required to be Basic Camp Certified,
but at least one adult from each troop that has never
attended TAC should attend the appropriateTAC
Leader Orientation:
• Camp Stonybrook: May 3, 2014
• Camp Libbey: May 10, 2014
Troop leaders accompanying the troop are responsible
for maintaining Safety Activity Checkpoint ratios
and adequately supervising the girls. The camp staff
provides camp expertise and leadership for the
program activities while Junior Instructors/CITs are
on hand to assist the staff and troop leaders with
activities. Troop leaders must provide supervision of
girls in the below ratios.
Two adults for every: 12 girls enteringsecond and third grade
16 girls entering fourth and fifth grade
20 girls entering sixth grade and above
There must be a minimum of two adults at least 19
years in age or older in attendance with every troop at
TAC at all times. These required adults attend camp
without paying a fee. Any adult attending who is not
required to fulfill Safety Activity Checkpoint ratios
must pay the full cost. The priority is to accommodate
as many girls as possible. Please limit adults to the
required ratios. Arrangements can be made for girls
with special needs. Adults may not bring “tag-a-longs”
(adults and leader’s younger children). Attendees
must be registered Girl Scouts attending camp with
their troop or group.

Volunteer Day Camp
CAMP PLANNER
Volunteer led day camp provides diverse activities and topics for girls to learn, explore and have fun in the
out of doors in various communities throughout our council! These day camps are run exclusively by volunteers and range in length, time of day and cost. At day camp, girls will discover, connect and take action
as they learn to live the Girl Scout Promise and Law and make a difference in the world. They will discover
their values and talents through a variety of outdoor activities. Girls will also connect with other girls and
adults, learn how to work together as a team and take action and make the world a better place.

We hope you will see the value in this progressive opportunity, and will help keep the history and tradition
of the day camp alive by volunteering at camp with your Girl Scout. Volunteer day camp is run by a
dedicated team of specially trained volunteers who work year round to make this enriching opportunity
possible. Volunteer day camps are staffed completely by volunteers, so we welcome moms, dads, aunts,
uncles, grandparents and other adult friends to volunteer.
A complete list of volunteer led day camps will be available at gswo.org/camp.
