An International Focus
Years ago, most people did not need to know much
about the world around them. However, in the 21st century the world has seemingly become a smaller place
through technological advances. Now, more and more
jobs and activities require knowledge of world affairs, as
well as the capacity to be fluent in multiple languages.
Craigmont Middle School is an Optional School that
focuses on International Studies, which prepares students to live and work successfully in this increasingly
global society and allows them to better understand the
cultures and people of the world.
Both the enhanced curriculum and the use of the
middle school approach to teaching enable Craigmont
Middle School’s faculty and staff to meet the needs of
the adolescent learner in a variety of ways. The school’s
focus on Social Studies and World Languages works to
increase global understanding, pluralism, and multicultural education. Students continue to excel in higherlevel social studies and world language courses in high
school and later in college.
The middle school approach (which incorporates
teaming, cooperative learning, and problem-solving
techniques) helps students makes a smooth transition
between elementary and high school. Because of our
international focus, a number of international collaborations have occurred with schools in other countries, further enhancing student involvement and discernment of
diverse global cultures.
