ASSESSMENT AND INTERVENTION FOR
ROTATOR CUFF TEARS AND IMPINGEMENT
PROGRAM PURPOSE
The purpose of this morning session is to enable clinicians to detect the anatomic and functional contributors for
rotator cuff pathology and glenohumeral impingement and to plan effective intervention programs.
OBJECTIVES
• Discuss anatomic and functional issues that contribute to the two pathologies;
• Plan effective intervention for rotator cuff tears; and
• Plan effective intervention for impingement.

TWO FOR ONE
PHARMACOLOGY UPDATE FOR
PHYSICAL AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS
PROGRAM PURPOSE
This afternoon session will examine medications commonly used in medical practice and rehabilitation. It will
begin with foundational information examining how drugs are commonly administered, taken up, metabolized, and
eliminated from the body. Course sections then focus on pain and inflammatory states that are treated with common
pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter (OTC) medications. We will examine medication mechanisms of action, key
adverse effects, and influences on patients undergoing physical therapy. Patient case application will accompany each
section. The course concludes with presentation and discussion of clinically significant drug interactions and practical
methodologies to prevent/decrease drug-drug interactions.
OBJECTIVES
• Describe the basic principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics;
• List benefits, limitations, and adverse effects of drug classes used to treat inflammation and pain;
• Categorize therapeutic drug classes used to treat disorders and diseases of the musculoskeletal system;
• Discuss the various mechanisms by which drug interactions occur; and
• Examine clinically significant drug interactions for over-the-counter and prescription medications and identify which
patients are at greater risk for developing adverse drug reactions.
