called confession, we meet
the Lord, who wants to grant
forgiveness and the grace to
live a renewed life in him. In
this sacrament, he prepares
us to receive him free from
serious sin, with a lively faith,
earnest hope, and sacrificial
love in the Eucharist. In the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, also called confession,

atholic Schools Week showed us just
how successful we are. It is with great
delight that we announce that Queen
of Angels School was awarded First Place
in the Future Cities Program. Repeatedly
and ongoingly Queen of Angels School has
shown its excellence in many areas of education and faith. Parents, you can be very
proud of your students and very grateful for
our staff and teachers. The whole atmosphere of the School is most rewarding and enjoyable. To all
those who participated in any way in Catholic Schools Week,
thank you very much.
You are invited! On February 13th, the eve of Valentine’s Day,
we will host a Mass and Dinner here at St. David Parish. You
are invited to join us by just calling the rectory and giving your
name to us to register. The parish is happy to host this event of
prayer and friendship. While the dinner is provided, you are
asked to supply your own beverages. The Mass will be at
7:00PM followed the dinner in Curran Hall.
Ash Wednesday is February 18th. Masses are at 6:30AM,
9:00AM (School children will be in attendance), 12:00 Noon

We will be having a Parish Mission for Lent from March 8 to

formerly of Archbishop Wood High School. The topic is the Beatitudes. Please plan to attend this Mission as part of your Lenten practice. More details and a schedule of our Lenten events
will be issued soon.
On that icy Sunday morning two weeks ago, several people
came to the assistance of someone who had slipped on the
ice. I want to thank them for their kindness and assistance.
Thank you and may your kindness be returned to you over and
over. Also thanks to those of you who made your contribution
for the missed week because of the weather.
God Bless You and yyour Families,
Just a reminder: If you wish to attend the Mass and Dinner on
February 13th in connection with Valentine Day please call the
rectory by February 10th to give your name which is your reservation. We need to know so as to plan the number of persons to
attend the reception in Father Curran Hall after the 7:00PM

Parish Men’s Retreat Weekend June 26-28
Mark Your Calendars Now!
St. David Men of Malvern, each year we look forward to
the Our Lady of Lourdes retreat at Malvern. Plan now on
spending this special time with God in 2015.
For over 100 years, the Malvern Retreat House has
been providing opportunities for men, women and families
to engage in a deep personal encounter with Jesus
Christ. It is through this retreat experience that a person is
refreshed and renewed to heed the gospel message. A
retreat provides the necessary sacred space and time for
God to transform us into living authentic discipleship. Join
the men of St. David Parish for the weekend of June 26th
to 28nd for their Malvern retreat. To learn more, call Gary
Warnalis at 215-260-5913 or send him an email at
[email protected].

sing on pitch. Rehearsals are every Tuesday night from
7:30 -9:00 in the Upper Room. High school students are
welcome. Please contact Barbara at 215-343-4445 or via
email at [email protected] for more information.

Fridays are Still Days of Penance
Ask almost anyone and they will tell you that Catholics
are no longer required to abstain from meat on Fridays
throughout the year. However, the current Code of Canon Law (CIC) states that, with the exception of solemnities, “All Fridays through the year and the time of Lent
are penitential days and times throughout the entire
Church.” (CIC 1250) Furthermore, “Abstinence from
eating meat or another food according to the prescriptions of the conference of bishops is to be observed on Fridays throughout the year unless they are solemnities.” (CIC 1251)
In the United States, the bishops have declared that it is
permissible to substitute some
other form of penance, but we
are still urged to fast from
“something” in remembrance
of the Lord’s death on the
cross.
