at Lexington Livestock Market (Lexington, NE). Considering the genetics that will be
offered, we truly feel that this is a sale where you should be in attendance. We will be
offering some of the most complete and balanced cattle that we’ve raised to date. The traits
that this generation of breeding stock possess is the result of years of a consistent vision
for what we want our cowherd to be known for and represent. We’re not saying that the
weaning weights that are printed in this catalog are the heaviest that we’ve ever had or
even that the yearling weights that will be available sale day will be noticeably larger, but
rather, what we are saying is that when you take into account all of the traits that we breed
for in cattle, our 2015 sale offering is a step above the generations that have come before
them.
We think it’s important that our goals and vision for our breeding program are
known to you as fellow breeders. I can’t say that one trait takes precedence over another
but rather it’s a combination of them all in balance that we continue to try to achieve. We
will be the first ones to admit that we have a lot to learn and that there are other people in
the industry who have more experience and expertise than we do, but we certainly have
our own opinion of what we feel works best and what makes for functional and profitable
cattle. Some of the must have traits that we’re breeding for are: soundness of legs and feet,
docility, moderate mature frame size, maternal qualities, depth and thickness of body, easy
fleshing ability (which in our opinion goes hand in hand with the cattle’s ability to achieve
higher daily gains), heavy weaning weights for the producers who sell their calves right off
the cow, and carcass quality merits. Some of the new sire groups in this sale offering are
advancing our program even farther in those areas. The Mohnen South Dakota 402 and S
A V Realist 2846 bloodlines are a great addition to our breeding program and should do
really well for others likewise.

First Year Breeding Season Guarantee
Kuck Ranch will provide a first year breeding season guarantee for any bull that sells for $3,000 or more in this
sale offering. The breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bulls(s). In the
event that an injury occurs please contact Abe or Kaleb Kuck as soon as possible. Kuck Ranch will either provide
another bull to cover the breeding needs of the customer or a credit (minus any possible salvage value acquired
by the customer) will be given toward the purchase of another Kuck Ranch bull the following year.

American Angus Association
Guidelines used in determining Pathfinder Cow Award status
The program identifies Pathfinder Cows in herds actively involved in Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR). First,
the female must produce her first calf near the herd’s average age for first calving. More specifically, the maximum age
accepted for first calving of a Pathfinder Cow is the within-herd average for first calving plus 30 days. The within-herd
average is determined separately for each herd in AHIR.
The second criteria, the Pathfinder Cow must maintain a regular calving interval.

Thirdly, to qualify initially, her first three calves must post a minimum average progeny weaning weight ratio of 105.
Should she fail to do this on her first three calves, she can qualify later by achieving an average progeny weaning weight
ratio of 105, provided she meets the other requirements. A minimum of 10 herd mates or contemporaries must be
evaluated together each year to determine the weight ratio. Additionally, her calves must be sired by registered Angus
bulls. To continue to qualify each consecutive year, the cow must produce regularly and wean a calf that helps maintain
the average weaning ratio of 105 or above. It is pointed out that once a cow is designated a Pathfinder, she is always a
Pathfinder, even though she might not qualify for listing each year.

Understanding The Information Printed With Each Sale Lot
Complete performance information is provided for each animal. The ratios are calculated in separate contemporary
groups and conditions they were raised under, so that a ratio of 100 will not necessarily correlate to the same weight
between the different groups. We have calculated interim EPDs for cattle that do not yet have official EPDs. Expected
Progency Difference (EPD) is the estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform in each of the
traits listed. EPD is expressed in pounds, either plus or minus. For example, when used on the same cows, calves sired
by a bull with a +40 weaning EPD should average 10 pounds more than those sired by a bull with a +30 weaning EPD.

EPD’s In Simpler Terms
Expected Progeny Difference (EPD)
Birth Weight EPD (BW) – A predictor of birth weight. The higher the number the heavier the expected birth weight
should be in the offspring. We suggest using our Calving Ease Rating as another guide in the area of calving ease. This
rating takes into account the EPD of the animal as well as the expected build and structure of the calves that they
produce. Things such as the size and shape of the calf ’s head as well as structure of the calf through its front shoulders,
etc. are taken into account.
Weaning Weight EPD (WW) – A predictor of weaning weight. The higher the number the heavier the expected weaning
weight should be in the offspring.
Milk EPD – A predictor of an animal’s genetic potential for milk production and mothering ability. The higher the
number the greater the genetic potential becomes for increased milk production and mothering ability.
Yearling Weight EPD (YW) – A predictor of yearling weight. The higher the number the heavier the expected yearling
weight should be in the offspring.
Marbling EPD (Marb) – A predictor of the amount of marbling in the meat. The higher the number the greater the
potential becomes for increased marbling in the meat. This has a direct influence on the quality of the meat and carcass
value of the animal.
Ribeye EPD (RE) – A predictor of the size of the Ribeye area. The higher the number the greater the potential becomes
for a larger Ribeye area. Once again this has a direct influence on the quality of the meat and carcass value of the animal.
$B (Beef Value) – The $B is really a way to look at the animal as a whole because it uses both the potential post-weaning
performance and carcass quality traits of the animal in the calculations that determine the value. The higher the number
the more potential the animal has for an increased value at slaughter in terms of revenue generated. Beef value really says
it all because it is referring to the animals genetic potential to have increased gains post-weaning combined with high
carcass quality for an overall increased value.
Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC) - expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for
scrotal size compared to that of other sires. The higher the number the larger the expected scrotal circumference should
be in the offspring of the animal.
Bull Development
The bulls in this sale offering were weaned on August 12th, 2014. The bulls were never CREEP fed. The
weaning weights shown on these bulls are a true representation of what the cows produced for pounds per calf
at weaning. The bulls have been on a high roughage growing ration since weaning. With an early weaning date
and target weights set early on the bulls have been able to be on a steady gain without ever really “pushing”
them. This early weaning program has proven to be very successful in our operation; in maintaining condition
on the cows and stocking the pastures heavier with cows without calves at side.

Mohnen South Dakota 402 was discovered by Abe while eating breakfast one morning and thumbing through the 2013 Mohnen Angus
Sale Catalog. I remember Abe saying “this looks like quite a bull, Kaleb!” We gave strong consideration to buying him on the Mohnen
Angus Production Sale that year, but chose to use him as an A.I. sire instead. Our first round of South Dakota calves performed really
well and they have the attributes that we’re looking for. We love his pedigree with the infamous Jilt cow family, and especially having S A
V 004 Density 4336 in his ancestry. We have been really impressed with the Density daughters that we’ve seen over the years and we’ve
been looking for a way to increasingly incorporate that bloodline into our breeding program. South Dakota has the maternal traits and
easy fleshing ability of Density and the growth and power of the Jilt cow family. The performance of Mohnen South Dakota 402’s first calf
crop across the nation has shot him to the top of the breed for growth EPDs, currently placing him in the top 1% for Weaning Weight
EPD and the top 2% for Yearling Weight EPD. We’re really excited about the genetic potential of his progeny.

S A V Realist 2846 is another new sire group to our program. We purchased Realist on the 2013 Schaff Angus Valley Production Sale,
selecting him for his remarkable depth, thickness, and powerful hind quarter. We felt that he would be a good cross on the Payweight
daughters in our herd. Needless to say we have not been disappointed with the results. The performance of the Realist calves has been
really fun to watch and the advancement that they have made since weaning has been staggering. We weighed the bull calves on 9/30/14
and again on 11/24/14 just to check on their progress and daily gains. The Realist calves were clearly gaining so much more per day
that it compelled us to compare them to the other sire groups. In that time period the S A V Realist 2846 sons were gaining an average
of 4.36 pounds per day compared to an average of 3.0 lbs. per day for the rest of the sire groups combined, with everyone being in the
same pen and on the same feed. Never at any point in their development do we “push” the bulls hard, we shoot for them to gain around
3 lbs per day, and so it’s incredible that the Realist calves were achieving those kinds of gains, a true testament to their efficiency and feed
conversion capabilities. The Realist cattle are sound on their feet, attractive in body and build, and they have powerful growth genetics
to add dollars to your bottom line.

Registered Open Yearling Heifers
Selling With Papers
We are once again offering yearling heifers that will sell with papers this year. You will notice
that there are 2 to 3 heifers listed under each lot number; the heifers were listed in these groups as
paternal siblings and will enter the sale ring together. They will sell with the highest bidder having
the option to purchase them individually by choice or as an entire sale lot package. The heifers
were recently vet palpated, are guaranteed open, and have been found to be of good reproductive
soundness. The heifers have been vaccinated for Brucellosis (Bang’s Disease), de-wormed, poured
for lice, received 7-Way vaccination, and have been vaccinated against respiratory diseases. All of
the heifers have been determined by testing or lineage to be free of the following genetic defects:
AM, CA, and NH. All heifers have undergone BVD PI Testing and are negative.

Some of the attributes of the Lot 80 females are docility, herd longevity, and dependable performance. Their sire, S A V 707 Rito
1421 is one of the best bulls we’ve ever owned in terms of phenotype. The dams of the girls of Lot 80 are older cows that have bred
