World Meeting of Families
In 1997, Pope John Paul II instituted a day of prayer
for women and men in consecrated life. This celebration
is attached to the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
This Feast is also known as Candlemas Day; the day on
which candles are blessed symbolizing Christ who is the
light of the world. So too, those in consecrated life are
called to reflect light of Jesus Christ to all peoples. The
celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life is transferred to the following Sunday in order to highlight the
gift of consecrated persons for the whole Church

Undocumented Individuals
Recently, President Obama announced a new policy
that will provide an opportunity for certain undocumented
immigrants to apply for a limited form of immigration
legal relief. In furtherance of our mission, to “Welcome
the Stranger”, our Diocese aims to provide reliable information and legal assistance to parishioners and other immigrants. Catholic Migration Services (CMS) will be
providing affordable services to eligible immigrants under

Help St. Stephen Catholic Church in Appalachia
St. Stephen’s is the smallest parish of the Catholic
Diocese of Lexington. The Church is in dire need of reparation: the roof, gutters, and walls need replacement.
This small community cannot afford to do the necessary
repairs without external assistance. Help is desperately
needed. In addition, their emergency food pantry assists
over 400 poor families every month. Any donation large
or small will be a blessing.

Jesús inaugura su misión pública en la sinagoga de
Cafarnaúm, donde el pueblo judío se reúne cada sábado
para su asamblea religiosa, y lo hace con palabras sabias y
obras prodigiosas. Enseña a la gente sencilla y cura a un
poseído por un espíritu inmundo. Todos pueden ver y oír
que está enseñando con una autoridad diferente y demostrando una doctrina nueva, clara evidencia de la fuerza del
Espíritu Santo.
La reacción de la gente es favorable, pues reconocen
en él la autoridad de un profeta; pero ello naturalmente
significa el desprestigio de la enseñanza habitual de los
rabinos de la época.
S.S. el Papa Francisco decía: “Jesús predica ‘como
quien tiene autoridad’, cura, llama a sus discípulos a seguirle, perdona… cosas todas que en el Antiguo Testamento, son de Dios y sólo de Dios. La pregunta que más
retorna en el Evangelio de Marcos es: ‘¿Quién es éste…?’
y tiene que ver con la identidad de Jesús, una pregunta
que nace de la constatación de una autoridad diferente a la
del mundo, una autoridad que no tiene la intención de
ejercer el poder sobre los demás, sino servir, para darles la
libertad y la plenitud de la vida.” (Carta al diario La Repubblica, 11 de septiembre de 2013).
Jesús siempre sorprende. Su lenguaje y sus gestos son
únicos. La gente se admira de su enseñanza, que no es
repetitiva, no es “lo de siempre”, hay novedad en su palabra, una novedad que se advierte al escucharlo hablar de
Dios y al presentar la Ley y los profetas. Pero allí hay alguien que se siente amenazado: el “espíritu inmundo” que
se ha apoderado de un hombre. Pero la poderosa palabra
de Jesús libera al hombre de la oscuridad en que lo ha sumido el pecado y la rebeldía.
Cristo sigue interpelando al hombre de todos los tiempos,
para que se pronuncie por él o contra él. Y todos tenemos
que decidirnos. ¿Te decides tú por Cristo?
