Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
February 1, 2015
God has graciously called us here today to support each other in our faith
and to be nourished at the tables of the Word and the Eucharist. How do we,
called as disciples of Jesus Christ, hear that word of God and put it into
practice in our lives? Does it make a difference, or do our lives resemble the
movie named after tomorrow’s celebration of Groundhog Day—the same
thing over and over again? Perhaps our prayer today can be to really hear
what God is saying to us, and to resolve to make it a reality in our lives.

Dear Friends,
Praised be Jesus Christ!
Now and forever! Due to the
impending weather conditions
necessitating an early submission
to the printer, and the funeral for
my Aunt, I am unable to write to
you this weekend. I enjoy doing
these columns very much and I hope that you
find at least some of them interesting and
helpful.
We do need to provide you information
about the annual Catholic Charities Appeal so I
ask that you look for that information in this
weekend’s bulletin.
Also our interview process for members to
form a Board of Governance with Limited
Jurisdiction for Holy Cross Regional School went
exceptionally well. Thank you kindly to those
who participated in the interview process. We
should have more details in the next week or
two.
Dear Friends,
Hope, like Faith, is a gift from God. The
poor, the sick, the homeless, the vulnerable
can’t give themselves hope. But, as a disciple
of Jesus Christ, you can. The 2015 Catholic
Charities Appeal is a wonderful opportunity to
share your blessings with the least fortunate
among us.
St. Paul, the co-patron of our Archdiocesan
Basilica, tells us that the three most precious
virtues are Faith, Hope and Love. They’re
deeply interconnected. We live our Faith when
we show Love to those most in need. And in
showing that Love, we bring them Hope.
Your past generosity gives me great
confidence that Christ will once again bestow
his grace on our community of Faith. And that
your donation to the 2015 Catholic Charities
Appeal, motivated by Love, may continue to
GIVE HOPE.
God bless you, God love you,
Monsignor McCulken

Highlighting our Ministries
MORNING ROSARY GROUP
The morning Rosary group meets Monday
through Friday after the 9:00 a.m. Mass.
During that time, we pray a Scriptural
Rosary before the Blessed Sacrament. Words
taken from Scripture before each Hail Mary
allow meditation on each of the mysteries
applicable for that day to take place. Prayer
petitions of our parish are also included.
Our Blessed Mother accompanies us as we
take this walk through the Gospel, and ask
her intercession for our various needs. The
Rosary is followed by the recitation of the
Divine Mercy Chaplet in which we implore
God’s mercy for ourselves and for the whole
world. The Rosary and the Chaplet are
powerful weapons of spiritual warfare. All
are welcome to join us as we lift up our
hearts and minds to God through them.
Betty Rowlands is the contact person for this
ministry. Additional times for the recitation
of the Rosary are: Saturday
mornings before the 9:00
a.m. Mass at 8:20 a.m and
Wednesday evenings at
7:00 p.m. in the Chapel.

many other ways, each offering tax advantages
according to their circumstances:

paid over a period of months. If possible, please
include your first month’s payment when you
mail your gift card envelope. You will then
receive a monthly statement.

“Catholic Charities Appeal.” Please complete
and mail the enclosed gift card in the envelope

impact of your gift to the Catholic Charities
Appeal? Over 20,000 companies have matching
gift programs, and many include current
employees and retirees. The wide array of
Catholic Charities Appeal beneficiaries allows
your donation to be eligible for the majority of
matching gift programs. Some corporations may
require that your gift be designated to a specific
beneficiary, but we are happy to help guide you
through the steps to secure a corporate match
for your donation. (A partial list of Matching Gift
Companies may be found on our website:
catholiccharitiesappeal.org) Please e-mail us at

February 2015: Two Become One
We are not made to be alone. Human beings
need and complete each other. Friendship and
community satisfy that longing with bonds of
common interest and love. Marriage is a
uniquely intimate form of friendship that calls a
man and woman to love each other in the
manner of God’s covenant. Marriage is a
Sacrament. Married love is fruitful and offered
without reservation. This love is in the image of
Jesus’ faithfulness to the Church.

implement the Pope’s vision.
Join us for five consecutive Saturday evenings
starting January 17th through February 14th, at
the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul,
1723 Race Street in Philadelphia after the 5:15
PM Mass. We will present excerpts from Pope
Francis’ “The Joy of the Gospel.” The excerpts
will be followed by a panel discussion to explain
the “New Evangelization” and how families can
put Pope Francis’ words into action.
Hear priests, deacons, sisters and local
educators discuss how you can be part of the
New Evangelization! See the poster in church for
more details. Register today by e-mail at
[email protected] or call Michael
Campbell at 215-407-7402.
Tweeted by Pope Francis on January 18:
How often we forget to dedicate ourselves to that which
truly matters! We forget that we are children of God.
