February 1, 2015
Last October, the Third Extraordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops was celebrated
in Rome addressing the topic: The Pastoral Challenges of the Family in the Context of
Evangelization. Following the event, Pope Francis decided to publish the Relatio Synodi, the
document that concluded the Synod’s work. The Holy Father also indicated that this document
would be the Lineamenta (working document) for the upcoming XIV Ordinary General Assembly of
the Synod of Bishops which will take place October 4-25, 2015 in Rome, addressing the topic: The
Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World.
At the end of the Lineamenta, a series of questions are proposed for reflection in order to prepare
for the upcoming Synod. Pope Francis, through the national conferences of bishops, has
requested that consultation be given with input from the Local Church. For this purpose, Bishop
Frank J. Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice in Florida, has communicated with the Pastors,
Parochial Administrators, and Parochial Vicars of the Diocese asking for their observations made
in consultation with their local Parish councils and other parish groups. Bishop Dewane invites all
other Catholics who wish to submit responses to do so by following the steps below.
The responses from the Diocese of Venice will be gathered with those of other dioceses by the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and forwarded to the Secretary General of the
Synod of Bishops for the Holy See.
—This letter is taken from the Diocese of Venice website www.dioceseofvenice.org
Pope Francis is asking for YOUR help!
In putting together our report to send to the Diocese, we need your feedback. This is one way you can
have a voice in our Universal Church. For the next three weeks, we will put four questions in the
bulletin and ask you to respond to one or more of the questions by e-mailing Lea, Director of Religious
Education at Resurrection. Lea’s e-mail is [email protected]
1. Beyond proclaiming God’s Word and pointing out extreme situations, how does the Church choose to be present “as
Church” and to draw near families in extreme situations? How does the Church seek to prevent these situations? What can
be done to support and strengthen families of believers and those faithful to the bonds of marriage?
2. How do Christian families bear witness, for succeeding generations, to the development and growth of a life of sentiment?
In this regard, how might the formation of ordained ministers be improved? What qualified persons are urgently needed in
pastoral activity?
3. How can people be helped to understand that a relationship with God can assist couples in overcoming the inherent weaknesses in marital relations? How do people bear witness to the fact that divine blessings accompany every true marriage?
How do people manifest that the grace of the Sacrament sustains married couples throughout their life together?
4. What initiatives in catechesis can be developed and fostered to make known and offer assistance to persons in living the
Church’s teaching on the family, above all in surmounting any possible discrepancy between what is lived and what is
professed and in leading to a process of conversion?
If you would rather reply to all of the questions that Pope Francis is asking in the Lineamenta, you
can find the complete document at http://dioceseofvenice.org/synod-consultation/ on this web site
you will also find instructions to reply directly to the Diocese.

March 14. All couples celebrating 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, or more than
50 years of marriage are invited by Bishop Frank J. Dewane to an
Anniversary Mass in their honor. The Anniversary Mass will be celebrated in two locations: February 7th at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice and March 14th at St. Leo the Great Parish in Bonita
Springs. Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Please call Resurrection parish
office (239-481-7171) for reservations no later than a week before the
event you choose to attend.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM BISHOP DEWANE
REGARDING THE CURRENT FLU SITUATION All parishes/missions/chapels in the Diocese of Venice in Florida are being
asked to take the following precautions to help mitigate the spread and effects
of the Flu.
The faithful should be encouraged to share the Sign of Peace without touching
hands. This can be done with meaningful eye contact, smiles, and a bow of the
head in reverence to another.
Please note: the “Sign of Peace” is optional in the celebration of the Mass as
the rubrics indicate.
Regarding the Precious Blood, at this point individuals have the choice as to
whether or not they are comfortable receiving the Precious Blood
at this time. Parishes may decide to discontinue reception under both species at
Communion.
Priests, deacons and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are especially reminded of the need to practice good hygiene. All Ministers of Holy Communion are encouraged to wash their hands before Mass begins and after
Mass.
The faithful are encouraged not to hold hands during the reciting of Our Father.
Parishioners should not come to Mass when they are not feeling well.
Until the Flu season has passed, these guidelines should be followed.
Continuously updated information is available from the CDC at
