The Outreach Committee will be
sponsoring a Valentine’s Dinner
Sunday, February 15th, at 5:00 p.m.
in the Fellowship Hall.
The menu will be Spaghetti, Salad,
Bread and Dessert and there will be a
free will offering.
Please sign-up in the Narthex on the whiteboard so we know
how many to plan for. Everyone is welcome and we look forward
to a fun evening of food and fellowship.
Lenten Worship will begin
Wednesday, February 18th at
Lord of Life starting at 6:00 p.m.
for our Ash Wednesday Service.
We will continue through Lent to
have our Wednesday evening
services at 7:00 p.m. following our
Lenten Soup Suppers.
Please join us starting Wednesday,
February 25th during the Lenten season
for our Soup Suppers. We will offer a
delicious soup supper before our
mid-week Lenten services.
The supper begins at 5:45 pm.
There is a sign up sheet in the hall by the
office for those who wish to help provide
soup on any of the Lenten Wednesdays.
It is a wonderful time for fellowship with
your Lord of Life family.

LORD OF LIFE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
January 12, 2014
To be approved at the February 2015 Council meeting.
Present: Vicki Glanzer, Pastor Bruce, Vicky Radke-Williams,
Chuck Wehrle, Betty Schindler, Karen Olsen, Virginia Conlee,
Kristina Good, Joe Hauge, and Brad Johnson
Absent: Ann Scott
Meeting called to order by President Vicki Glanzer

Congregational Members Present: none
Treasure’s Report: Contributions toward the debt reduction campaign
$24,000 challenge totaled $28,204, which is 17% over the goal.
Therefore, $6,000 added by our challengers will result in a mortgage
payment of $34,204. Once this payment is made, the mortgage
balance will be $21,875 and with regular $2,500 monthly payments the
debt will be paid off in the September/October timeframe. Lord of Life
made a second $1,500 payment to Synod benevolence, achieving our
2014 goal of $3,000, a repeat of the benevolence our church provided
in 2013. Vicky Radke-Williams made motion to accept the Treasurer’s
Report. Betty Schindler seconded, all approved and motion carried.
Secretary’s Report: The report from December was reviewed.
Reference to the first action being election of new officers was
incorrect. New officers will be in the New Business section of the
agenda. Chuck made motion to accept the minutes, Vicky RadkeWilliams seconded. All in favor and motion carried.
Pastor’s Report: Everything going well
President’s Report: Vicki requested scheduling of installation of new
Council. Timing set for January 25th. She recognized the service of
last year’s Council members and thanked everyone at the meeting for
their willingness to serve through 2015. With Ann Scott’s health
condition, Vicki asked Virginia Conlee to serve on the Council as she
was also nominated from the November Annual Meeting process.
Virginia agreed to serve for Ann Scott for a one-year term.
Committee Reports
Alter Guild: Nothing to report

Outreach: January 25 will be a tree burning bon-fire with pot luck lunch
in the fellowship hall immediately following the church service.
Valentines Dinner will be Sunday February 15. Next meeting will be
February 1 for detailed planning of the Valentines dinner.
Property: Fire extinguishers were purchased and placed in the youth
room. Furnace maintenance was done.
Education/Youth: November “Mitten Tree” provided more winter wear
than expected, allowing the Youth Group to give a large bag to the two
elementary schools in Rapid Valley. The administrators of the schools
were very thankful for this service to their needy students. The sale of
braided bread was originally planned to provide money for a Christmas
gift for two children in the WAVE program. Due to the exceeding sales
success, plus a private gift donation, the Youth Group of Lord of Life
purchased 12 presents what were made available to the WAVE
program so this many children could receive a Christmas present.
The Youth Group is willing to help with events or any other committee
or work around the church.
Worship/Music: Committee met and scheduled music for services
through Palm Sunday
These reports were approved: Vicky Radke-Williams made first motion,
Betty Schindler seconded, all in favor to approve.

President: Brad nominated Betty Schindler and she accepted
Vice President: Chuck Wehrle nominated Brad Johnson and he
accepted.
Kristina Good made motion to accept the new officers, Vicky seconded,
all were in favor.

The next Council meeting will be held on Monday, February 9th at 6 p.m.
Devotions: Karen Olsen volunteered
Virginia made first motion to adjourn, Vicky seconded. All in favor.
The meeting was adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer.

All these items are rolled up in the towel and sent to a Lutheran World Relief
warehouse to then be delivered to people who are survivors of disasters all over

Please continue to save your Family Thrift Center
receipts. Once our receipts total $150,000, we
will receive a check for $1,000 from Family Thrift
Center. There is a wooden box in the narthex
where you can put your receipts. Thank you!

needs some extra comfort and prayers,
please take a Prayer Shawl from the
display in the narthex to give to them.
Everyone is welcome to do so at anytime.
Fair Trade Coffee
Coffee is the most widely traded
commodity in the world yet most
coffee growers live below poverty
levels because the middleman gives
them next to nothing for their crops. That’s why
Lutheran World Relief has set up cooperatives with the
coffee growers around the world to help them earn
more money for themselves and their communities.
Please consider purchasing your coffee here at church
and you will feel better knowing you are doing your part
helping people live better lives.
Coffee is for sale on the Usher’s Table every Sunday.
Taking Off Pounds Sensibly meets Saturday
mornings at 8:00 to 8:15 for weigh in and
8:15 to 8:45 for meetings. A ll meetings take place
at Lord of Life Church. Low cost and high support!
The first meeting is free. For more information,

The afternoon Bible did not meet in January because
of bad weather. The next Bible study will be on
February 5th, at l:00 p.m.

Natures beauty can be found anywhere,
Even in winter when the trees are bare.
You can see reflections on the glare ice,
As long as you’re not walking on it,
It can be quite nice!
There is beauty to behold,
Even when the weather is cold!
Sometimes the days are cloudy and grey,
But they can still offer quite a display!
It is good for the mind to take a time out,
So pause for awhile and look about!
It may surprise you what you may see,
If you stop and let your mind run free!
The snow on the branches can be quite a sight,
As long as the wind remains light!
So as you go about your daily routine,
Take a moment to take in the scene,
It may help to make your life more serene!

Lutheran Social Services West River Benefit Dinner
March 15, 2015 - Silent Auction 4 pm, Dinner/Program 5:15 pm
The Benefit Dinner will take place at The Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn
to celebrate the work of LSS in Western South Dakota. A pledge or
contribution to support LSS programs in the area will be requested.
If you have any questions, please talk to Martin & Gladys Osterloh
who will be the table hosts for Lord of Life Church. There is a sign-up
sheet in the hallway by the offices if you would like to attend.
The Outreach Committee will be holding
its monthly meeting after the
February 1st church service.
The meeting will take place in the
class rooms by the church entry way.
Everyone is invited to come and help
plan fun things for our church to do!

Congratulations on another
successful debt reduction
campaign. Through this latest
effort, we were able to raise
$27,634. That is 15% above our
goal of $24,000. Since we made
our goal, we will receive the
additional match of $6,000. We
can all look forward to burning
our church mortgage at our fire pit sometime this fall. This is a
monumental achievement for our congregation. Having no church
mortgage positions us to be financially sound for decades to
come.
Other financial accomplishments for 2014 include $3,000 in
benevolence support, improvements to our church grounds and
sending youth to summer camp. These efforts are evidence of our
improving financial health. Below is a summary of the income and

WAVI called just before Christmas due to the arrival of new families.
Because of your generosity, we were able to provide each of them a
Christmas gift bringing our total to 12 gifts provided.
We will be having our February meeting on
Saturday, February 7th from 7-9:00 pm.
We will be having our Valentine’s Party and Wii
bowling tournament. Please bring a snack to share.
From the moment we open our eyes we are learning. As we observe
the world around us, we learn without realizing it. We look up to role
models that may influence us. Who influences you? Do you look to your
parents? Your teachers? Friends? Older siblings? Your favorite sport
player? An actor or actress? What about Jesus? How do you see
yourself? Is someone looking to you as their role model?
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others,
so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who
is in heaven.
Think about what a role model means to you and who
you see as a role model. Please bring examples with you
on February 21st from 7-9:00 pm.
