Every Member Get A Member in 2015!
Pat McPharlin
U-Club President
This year, we are challenging every member to get a member! To assist you, the Club has reduced the
social initiation fee to just $200 for any new member who joins by April 30, 2015. They’ve also created a
dynamic Where U Belong membership campaign with tools that can be used to spread the word about the
Club to your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors! If you know of someone who would enjoy all that
the U-Club has to offer, simply call 353-5111 with the person’s contact information, and the staff will take
it from there. Each new member you sponsor will earn you valuable Ambassador Rewards, too (see below).
We encourage you to accept the challenge! Your efforts will help ensure a strong future for your Club!
Help Spread The Word
The University Club Is #WhereUBelong
• You will be receiving Where U Belong cards in the mail... hand them
out to anyone you think might be interested in joining the U-Club. You
can pick up more at the front desk, download an electronic version from
the online toolkit, or call us at 353-5111, and we’ll send them to you!
• We will be releasing a new Where U Belong video testimonial
every week. Share them on your favorite social media sites such as
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
• Share the University Club video tour on our website with others to
showcase our beautiful facility and services.
• Forward a U-Mail Minute email or find a handy cut-and-paste email
in the Where U Belong toolkit at www.universityclubofmsu.org to

Around the Club…
News & Updates from CEO/GM Karen Grannemann, CCM
One of the most underused privileges of University Club membership is our
extensive network of reciprocal clubs. I’m often guilty myself…when I travel, I look
for hotels and restaurants, and forget about the spectacular clubs we could enjoy.
But over the past few months, I have made a point of exploring, and have been
amazed at the results. Our celebration dinners for both our daughters’ graduations
were held at private clubs in Washington, DC (The University Club of Washington,
Grannemann
DC) and Baltimore (The Center Club), and they were incredible experiences at
spectacular locations with amazing food and service. We were treated like royalty and welcomed
with open arms, and my family and I will never forget those occasions.

Recently, I attended a meeting at the Union League in Philadelphia. This experience underscored
how lucky we are to be able to access these spectacular venues—at no additional cost! I stayed
at the Club, had breakfast at the Club, had my meeting at the Club, and enjoyed dinner at one of
two five-star restaurants in Philly—at the Club! This eight-story building covering an entire city
block offers many unique features: a spectacular art collection, a demonstration kitchen, a private
dining room, and a museum, among many other amenities. A more complete description is listed

members to the Club or by serving on the board or a committee.
All ambassadors will receive a personal invitation to join us
for a complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktail reception, at
which they will be recognized and given an Ambassador Society
pin. Thanks to all of our ambassadors for their dedication and
support of the Club!

Wine &
Chocolate
Dinner
Friday, January 30 • 6:30 p.m.
The worlds of chocolate and wine unite for a truly remarkable evening!
Join our guest speaker, Jodi Holden, Michigan district manager for
Trinchero Family Estates, as she explores the perfect pairing of wines
and chocolate. Four different wines produced by the renowed Trinchero
Family Estates will be featured during the four-course dinner, expertly
prepared by U-Club Executive Chef John Findley [411]. Savor the unique
tastes of chocolate featured throughout the dinner in such surprising
things as barbecue sauce and vinaigrette, and be amazed as the
flavors are enhanced by fine wine. Don’t miss this delightful event! Call
353-5111 to register today!
$60 Per Person • $50 Per Tasting Society Member
Trinchero Family Estates Featured Brand: Terra d’Oro
Translated as "Land of Gold," Terra d'Oro receives its mother lode in
the form of pristine grapes. The label pays tribute to its Italian heritage
by generating fantastic Pinot Grigios and Barberas, along with singlevineyard Zinfandels featuring the region’s trademark "Shenandoah spice"
that makes their Zins stand above the rest.
