EXTRA MILE challenges 2015
Join us for a fantastic sponsored cycle relay through
the Mayenne/Sarthe/Loire/HAUTE CREUSE REGIONS OF
FRANCE TO OUR FINAL BASE AT FUTUROSCOPE (POITIERS)
We’re challenging teams of 4 to ride this spectacular 500-plus mile route in relay, mostly on quiet minor
roads. Each cyclist will cover about 45 miles per day, typically in 4 or 5 stages. You don’t need to be an
experienced cyclist or athlete to take part, but you’ll need to be reasonably fit, so start training now!
Raise money for your favourite
charity
75% of your team’s sponsorship goes to the
charity of your choice. The remainder (plus all
gift aid claimed) goes to three others chosen
by the Organisers (see overleaf) and to Rotary
charitable funds. Our first 12 Challenges have
raised over £1.2 million for charity!

EXTRA MILE challenges 2015
This year we are less nomadic
basing the Challenge in just two
locations over the four nights
THE ROUTE - DAY ONE
Our first base is Le Mans – more used to the roar of engines and four wheel speed, but also home to the Tour de Sarthe where
past winners have included David Millar, Greg Lemond and Andreas Kloden. Take time over our 2 nights at the City to view the
Old Town, with remnants of the Roman fortifications, cathedral and various museums. A unique museum by the circuit entrance
is the 24 Heures du Mans Motor Museum.
Our first day’s cycling takes us in a loop through the Alpes Mancelles, around to the forests of Alencon and back to our second
night in Le Mans. The terrain is varied and skirts the Parc Naturel de Normandie-Maine; perfect preparation for a soothing beer
to recall hills and descents.

DAY TWO
Our second day’s cycling heads south through the Loire region,
crossing the river and on to Poitiers. Less climbing today, but
a chance to view the Chateaux and vineyards of the Loire
Valley.
Our base for the next 2 nights is the Hotel Plaza on the
Futuroscope Complex, just to the north of Poitiers. Poitiers was
another important regional base in Roman times, and there
are remains of the Amphitheatre and baths from this period.
We hope to be more welcome than the English visitors of
September 1356, whose victory in the Battle of Poitiers was a
pivotal point of the 100 Years War.
DAY Three
Our final day’s cycling loops south to the Monts d’Ambazac
and Monts de Blond, bringing a few more elevations to the
Challenge. We return to our base in preparation for the
celebration Gala dinner to celebrate our Challenge.
Futuroscope gives us the title of this year’s Challenge, but
the more observant will remember that 2015 was the year
Marty McFly travelled to in the film. Hover boards and Sports
Almanacs are welcome!!
